I invested some time to listen to it.

Fecking awesome. Real mix of styles from passionate ballads to full scale country/metal.

All these years and The Birthday Party is still there. Recommended.

It is tamer than Gman1.

For me, Gman1 was the Velvets/Stooges with Cave's touch.

Gman2 is ... Seasick Steve doing Goth?

ETA:
1 is Junk Yard
2 is Nick the Stripper

hehe

I'm a massive Nick Cave fan....and haven't listened to this yet.. frown

..and with all this talk about The Birthday Party, it sounds like I had better!

I've been listening to more Birthday Party recently, than Bad Seeds. Just wish Mr Cave would play Birthday Party tracks! I missed them back in the day.

If you like The Birthday Party, it's also worth listening to al album called "Horse of the Dog". It's in my list of all time great debut albums!

HANDS UP WHO WANTS TO DIE??

Want to get this.
I saw the Grinderman performance at Connect in Inverary a couple of years back. Absolutely superb.

"barely tamed musical malevolence" indeed!

I prefer their term of 'garage swamp blues' to my 'country/metal'. I was trying to think of a way of succinctly describing the 'Louisiana backwoods' sound; I guess that's why they're journos and I just write on PH hehe

Am downloading the recommended 'Horse of the Dog' whilst listening to 'She's hit' - those were the days.

We ran a thread for us 'dudes of the darkness' a while back, if you want to identify the suspects.

Listened to Horse of the Dog - not bad at all.

Thought it was more Cramps/Hanoi Rocks than BP though.

Yeah, it is a bit Cramps-like in places. Celebrate your Mother is in my alltime Top 10. smile
