Recently heard a song on the radio by Die Antwoord called Enter the Ninja.

Seriously.....WTF. Is it supposed to be a serious song or a p1ss take? I cant work it out???! The worst part about it is that I cant get it out of my head....quite a catchy chorus rhythm.

I also can't understand if they are SA's version of Goldie Lookin' Chain or just really st.

There is very little humour in it - so I'm going for the latter.

Its st. And they've ripped off a song called butterfly which was featured on the DDR games.

My cousin showed me that the other week when he got back from South Africa along with this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yWeMIALolY
I'm just going with the assumption that SA music is a bit different!

There was an article on it a few months ago as to whether it was a piss take of that culture, or actually true.
I think the article didn't come to a conclusion.

I think it was picked as a record of the week on radio 1 at one stage...

So, they're not a joke, someone showed me this when it came out in South Africa. All I know is that all of my friends in South Africa are extremely embarrassed that this has made it into the rest of the world.

His words were 'ZEF, how about the explain to the South Africans what ZEF is before he tries to explain it to the rest of the world'.

It's strange that they've latched onto it on the radio so much, considering about 50% of the song is swearing and 80% of the song is in Afrikaans, which makes it funny to me, and about 7 other people, but other than that, I dunno.

The band themselves have said the only reason people in south africa watch them is because they swear so much in Afrikaans. Poes.

I think they're appalling humans, but slightly catchy in a weird way.

There you have it, the addictive part of a song which keeps you coming back and sells it by the bucket load.

Just like a drug - overall, it's really st but there's that one buzz that makes you go back for more.

I don't know if I'm giving the genre or it's follows too much credit, but i think that it purposely cheesy and kitsch and therefore ironic.
I have been told that members of Die Antwoorp attended art college and can see similarities with what they are doing and Marcel Duchamp's Fountain.
I could be totally wrong and they could just be st and me an idiot!

I like it.

It's kind of morbidly intruiging. And quite catchy too.
