Hello all,

Been listening to a lot of the same recently and I fancy a new band to get into. The title gives a rough genre guide (Metal pls), but here are some of my favourite bands, in (very) rough order of preference:

Slayer
SiKth
Iron Maiden
Lamb of God
Anthrax
Fear Factory
Machine Head
Rammstein
Slipknot
Hatebreed
Megadeth
Soulfly
Devildriver

Any suggestions are more than welcome, been more into heavy stuff recently (hence Maiden being bumped down to 3rd, shocker!) so take that as a guide.

Also, some bands I really really don't like are Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for my Valentine, Bring Me the Horizon and for some reason (and much to my best mates annoyance) Judas Priest.

Cheers
Matt

Thanks, need to give Meshuggah a good going, listened to a bit and they were quite good.

Deliberately ignored Metallica on either list as I am struck by incredible indifference to most of their work. I like Master of Puppets, Kill 'em all and Death Magnetic, but most of their other stuff just leaves me cold.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

Can you tolerate 'growls' or 'screams', usually found in Death and Black Metal, or would you prefer something with more eligible vocals?

Their track on Pendulums "Immersion" album is brilliant.

You might like Spineshank (not my cup of tea)
Revile
36 Crazyfists (personal favorite)

Oi! Adam, you spelled Serjs' name wrong! tongue out

The new Exodus record is pretty awesome so I'd highly recommend that along with:
Candiria - £00% Density
Opeth - Just about anything
The Acacia Strain - Again take your pick but The Dead Walk is a good start, especially if you like Meshuggah
Cobalt - Gin, criminally underrated band and album
Neurosis - Through Silver In Blood

If you liked Sepultura and SoulFly .. try Cavalera Conspiracy.

Been listening to a lot of mid/late 90's stuff at the moment (BioHazard, Pantera, Korn, FearFactory) and a lot of it I'm wondering where the bass is.

Pantera and Biohazard both had pretty good (if unimaginative) bass, although Evan Seinfeld's probably better than Rex. Korn are different though: Fieldy is/was more percussive and seems to lend more weight to the drums as opposed to the guitar riffs. Two approaches, three great bands!

If you like Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth etc, then you'll like Testament, Exodus and Metallica.

Why don't you like Judas Priest?!

Tbh I just find JP to be like a poor mans Iron Maiden, only significantly worse. Just can't click with it when I hear it. I know i'm being outrageously unfair to them though.

Thanks for the other suggestions chaps, going to have to start working my way through some of these.

I can't believe I've found someone with the same view on priest, other than the painkiller album I agree 100% and they were pretty poor live when I saw them at wembley.

Also recomend Viatrophy.

I've always loved Rex's work. He tended to just shadow Dimebag and it worked brilliantly for Pantera. Key to their sound imo.
