Sounds like one of Brian Eno's music for films tracks.

If it's not, have a listen to them anyway as you'll like them if you like the top gear piece.

Thomas Newman clap

Love the music from American Beauty, and almost anything else I've heard by him.

I think he excels himself on the "Meet Joe Black " soundtrack.

Ludovico Einaudi's newer stuff is a bit like this, too.

I hate Newman and everything he has ever done.

OK... he is IMHO the best composer of the past twenty years. Try watching Shawshank or Road with the screen turned off - I HATE him!

Having said that, I've made a great deal of money nicking some of his harmonies - so he's not all bad. In fact he probably paid for my house. Ta mate.... I still hate you though.

ETA Having studied what he does, he has a really simple trick that he employs ALL the time in his compositions (which is why you can always tell it's him before you see the credits). I could tell you what it is, but I'd have to kill you.

Just thought I would add that I discovered Ludvico about a year ago and he must be one of the best relatively unheard of composers of our time.

Saw him live in Manchester last year and was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. His latest tracks from Nightbook are used in so much TV its unreal once you recognise them!

He inspired me to get back into playing the piano when I heard Una Mattina. He's very well-known in classical music circles... just doesn't get much airplay on Radio 1. silly
