I wanted to cover either Digital Bath or Change In The House of Flies .... is it just plain wrong?

No. Have you not heard Nina Gordon's version of Straight Outta Compton?! There is no such thing as 'wrong'...

Nothing wrong with cover versions so long as the band doing the cover makes the song their own rather than emulating the style of the origional.

Deftones have covered songs by helmet and duran duran, and done it well.

Most of ken andrews cover versions sound better than the original. Just look for 'the replicants' cover of 'just what i needed' and his version of depeche mode 'the silence' and the wings 'silly love songs'. All of these are good examples of covers of various bands using ken's specific style.

Pony,

Look it up in the 'interesting cover versions thread'. There's something fascinating about an American woman drawling words like 'motherfker'!

Sometimes the covers are better, ie: FearFactory's cover of Gary Numan's Cars (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSoKp6dRUH0)or in keeping with the Gary Numan theme the version of Down in the park by Foo Fighters (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30DMi866ThM)

There is something not quite right about that, I'm going to listen again and see if I can put my finger on it.

I'm a huge Deftones fan, there is great production on your track. However I have to say the style of the vocals (although the girl has a beautiful voice) and musical accompaniment (although played superbly) is imho not working for me as a Deftones cover. Chino's vocal style fits perfectly with the discorded way the lyrics are sung, or shouted as occasionally the case may be. This is what helps gives Deftones such a distinctive sound, it's a style they have been developing even before becoming a commercial success many many years ago. At the least I want to hear and scratchy female vocal such as Blondie or Skin (Deborah Dyer) on a Deftones track.

What this sounds like, to me, is the equivalent of someone like Thom Yorke walking up to a piano, sitting down carefully and then giving everyone a rendition of Baggy Trousers by Madness. A great voice doing something unexpected, but not my thing.

I'll suggested most of the stuff by Team Sleep if you like Chino's distinctive vocals over a mellow chilled style. Personally I feel the vocalist's voice you have used would probably work better than Chino's on a few Team Sleep tracks.

Sorry for my blunt observations. I'm glad others really enjoyed the track - it's obvious you have talent.
