DJ Tim Westwood talks to Matt Stadlen about how he got into hip-hop, its relationship with knife and gun crime, growing up as the son of a vicar and how he wants to keep on DJing until his dying day.
God damn it, just when you need an article to finish with "which will be within the next week or so"...Oh I don't know. I think compared to most Radio 1 DJ's - Wiley, Moyles, Bowman - he's pretty good. I'd much prefer it that Moyles stops, not actually die per se, but just shut up. Saying that I listen to Evans now anyways.
(I'm getting boring, look at that meaningless drivel above. )
Anyhoo.
I'm quite convinced his tounge in firmly in his cheek a lot of the time. Quite funny actually.

He may talk like a tt, but he was singly responsible for getting the UK market to take on and understand hip hop/rap back in the day, he heavily promoted the genre, hence the respect he receives from the rap industry.
In many ways he is quite genuine, he enjoys the music and environment of the rap scene - and why not!

He comes across as a bit of a tt until you get to understand him a bit then hes alright. As others have said, he doesnt take himself too seriously and is very knowledgeable about music in general. Certainly better than some of the other R1 DJs.
He is knowledgeable, and a friend of mine had a track released on one of his compilations a few years back. However, he does take himself seriously, and from what I've been told he's viewed as being a bit of a tt by those in the industry as well. But its his knowledge and connections that keep him going. And on the plus side, he is a bit of a petrolhead, albeit apparently a fan of old american V8 muscle.
