Back in the summer of 1989 I decided on a whim to take my first road trip in California, so I booked my fights and hire car. A couple of days later Mrs Streetrod walked into my life.

A week after that I was on the plane to LA feeling very good with myself. As I picked up my Mustang hire car I pulled out of LAX with a huge grin on my face. I ficked on the radio and this was the first tune that came out:

Tony! Toni! Tone! - It Never Rains In Southern California

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yNibj8LW-Q

That was start of a kick ass holiday that just got better and better.

Any other PH readers here that have tunes that evoke great driving memories

I've gotta feeling by the black eyed peas;

Yes yes, I know...

After about a week of driving, me and two mates decided to go on a little road trip around Wales, needless to say we got totally totally lost! But throughout the journey the same song kept being played on various radio stations in which we picked up.

Eventually got home about 4AM.

Good times smile

Oh no.

You have a VTR which beats most cars on the road do you?

Which other account do you have?

I had two. One was driving over the Bay Bridge in SF, with only enough money in the ashtray for the toll, and nothing else. Just driven pretty much non-stop from Denver (apart from the crash...) and as I got onto the bridge I was treated to

Radar Love by Golden Earring. That was pretty cool.

The other one was when I got to LA, "Welcome to the Jungle" was playing on the radio when I got stuck in the most intimidating traffic jam ever. But I think at least one station has that on a loop there for the benefit of visitors. biggrin

Recently I managed to get my hands on a proper car for the first time in a long time. Convertible, six cylinder, manual, nice....
So I decided to take it for a hoon early on a Sunday morning before I had to give it back. Now, round where I live there are some major roadworks and despite it being 6.00 am I was stuck behind some sandwich truck as I trundled through the average speed limit when this came on the Ipod.

and at exactly 0:51 when it all goes loud was exactly when I cleared the road works, dropped it down a couple of gears, bye Mr Sandwich Van in a roar of exhaust noise. Oh I remember now, thats why I like fast cars.
Very large grin for the rest of the day. biggrin

One of my other car memories can be found here;

That first pearl jam album always reminds me of being driven around the swiss alps and PJ Harvey’s Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea reminds me of driving around in my e28 with a girl in our first summer together when things were great and we had our whole lives ahead of us etc…

Other than that the Dirty Three’s Ocean Songs, Horse Stories and Live at Meridith have been the background to bellowing M20 on many a high speed drive home.

The intro to Dire Straits' Money For Nothing has seen several acceleration runs livened up for me.
