Anyone else got Glastonbury on? Florence And The Machine are currently singing (for once only) their version of "The Chain". Not bad at all! I hope it gets put up on the BBC clips.

This will probably get shunted to TV or Music, but I thought I should try here first.

really, she must have been miming, or a double was singing for her.

saw her last year, and i have to say i honestly thought the rspca had taken to strangling the loose cats backstage.

awful, awful, awful.

just saw this

awful, so pretentious towards the end - her voice is not very strong

saw fleetwood mac do it last year and they did it 1000 better and they all managed to stand still.

shoot Florence & the machine

I don't know how anyone can deal with those god awful vocals and terrible songs. Really can't stand that bint. As for Fleetwood Mac, they were on a complete other level. If it's still on there, there's a good documentary about how they all got together and recorded Rumors on BBC iPlayers. Definetly worth a watch. yes

Same here, I think she's murdered a lot of songs by trying to put her style or twist onto them.

Thats "style and twist" as in complete and utter vocal incompetence?

Its quite amazing that her uneven warbling has got such accolades. Obviously a lot of the music press are deaf, and the paying public are completely idiotic 'tards.

hehe

Very true. I'm a member of the press, I was in the crowd and I was loving it. My missus, on the other hand, is a musician and she rants about how chronically out of tune Florence was every time I mention it. She wasn't impressed at all.

I'm probably closer to the fee-paying public though and personally I think the ability to create atmosphere at a gig is more important than being note-perfect. I've been to some awesome gigs where the band members were barely able to walk by the time they went on stage, let alone acheive perfect intonation. I'm told musicians refer to it as playing chromatically. biggrin

I think they should aim for both, but I know which I'd rather see them compromise in the heat of the moment. The worst thing is a souless band that sounds like someone playing their CD.

I kind of agree but some of the dreadfully off key, lack of effort/skill performances which make it onto TV from major festivals these days make me wonder who the hell told some of these bands they can play at all.

Trouble is that critisism like that is why live autotune and intricate backing tracks are becoming more popular live. I'd much rather hear a bum note occasionally. It means they're actually singing.

Thank god I stumbled across this thread. I was starting to feel like I was the only person in the world that that 'florence' is SH T!!!

Some journalist once described her voice as 'powerful yet fragile'.

Technically, they were'nt wrong.

bks. autotune and all the rest is just silly young singers being given duff advice instead of singing lessons.
