What does everyone think of the latest line-up? Has anyone seen them recently? My mate told me they are coming to Belfast in August, I saw the original lineup at Slane Castle in 92 and, i told him "theyre nothing but a tribute band now etc with only Axl Rose from the original band" Anyway , after talking him out of getting tickets, i got home to the news that my wife has bought me 2 surprise tickets to see them @ £70 each!!(she knows im a massive fan but didnt realise the band circumstances) Will they play the oldies or mostly Chinese Democracy? I know Izzy Stradlin guested at a few festivals but, would he tour? Is Axl more reliable these days and does he show up on time if at all? How do the old songs sound with the new band? The more ive thought about it, the more i realise that obviously Axl's voice would be the hardest thing to replace but, it just doesnt feel right going without Slash or Duff never mind whatever drummer. Put my mind at rest guys.........please

Treat yourself to Chinese Democracy. it is suprisingly good. Get over the fact that Slash is no longer in the band, and you will really enjoy. Put it another way, have you heard Slash's latest solo effort? It is OK, but nowhere near as good as Chinese Democracy. If it gives us any indication of what direction Slash would be taking GnR were he still in the band, then IMHO Axl is doing a much better job without him.

I would definitely go and see them. Get over the Slash thing and enjoy smile

I personally liked Chinese democracy, but from what i can gather, half the band line up on the album has departed.
Axl on vocals
chris pitman and dizzy reed on keyboards
tommy stinson on bass
frank ferrer on drums
now as far as guitarists go, i think one is dj kashba(or whatever his name is) and iirc the other is bumblefoot

So as you can see the line up is constantly changing. Mind you i'd still go and see them, but i doubt they could match monsters of rock from back in the day

I have got chinese democracy but to be honest i havent got to know it as indepth obviously as the other albums and i thought it was ok. I knew Dizzy reed still played with them but do they still play plenty of the oldies mixed in too? When did buckethead leave the band? As for the Slash thing - as i said earlier, i accept its probably easier to copy his guitar licks than to copy Axls voice

I would think they would do some of the old classics when playing live (a shame if they don't). Check out Youtube for some recent live footage - may give an indication

Having seen Slash at Download doing 4 G'n'R songs with Myles Kennedy on vocals, then searching out some recent G'n'R performances of the same songs on Youtube to do a comparison, my conclusion was that you don't need Axl but you do need Slash. No one else seems to be able to nail those guitar parts in the way that Slash does, but there are a number of singers out there that could do as well as (or better than) Axl. All IMHO of course.

Saw the in 2006. Amazing show smile You will enjoy it. Don't be one of these people that go 'it isn't guns n roses any more without slash.'
Great show and Chinese Democracy is great!

I saw Slash playing at the Stade de France this weekend (Friday) smile He was opening for AC/DC - I didn't know he was going to play so it was a great bonus to hear Sweet Child of Mine played live by the man himself.

saw them in sheffield c 2006 - superb gig, even if it did look like axl would throw is dummy after a few songs 'cos there were problems with the monitors.

iirc paradise city encore induced a state of euphoria in me i didn't know i had!

a top 5 of all time gig.

I think in reality, GnR was bigger than just Axl or Slash, Izzy Stradlin was pretty inportant to the mix i think.

GnR as they are now is really Axl Rose solo though isn't it. Nothing wrong with that but its GnR in name only. It's Axl Rose using the fact he owns the name as a clever marketing ploy. VR are more GnR with a differnt singer than Axl is GnR if we're honest. (I've nothing against Dizzy Reed, but a real bona fide GnR member? I don't think so).

Not seen Axl touring so can't comment, I'd be suprised if it wasn't a good show though.
