Songs that remind you of being somewhere
Discussion
You know, you hear a song and you instantly link the tune to a place in memory.
A couple for me are...
B52's, Love Shack - It was a glorious summers day and I was stuck in a traffic jam on the elevated section of the A40 Westway. Every time I hear that song it reminds me of summer and looking forward to getting home to a warm summers evening relaxing in the garden.
Boomtown Rats, Rat Trap - Being a bit of a sparky even at the tender age of six, I set about taking apart the radio that I had just bought from a Jumble Sale, and fitting the knobs and speaker inside a cardboard box to make it look like a big hi-fi system (like dads one downstairs). It even had a couple of old light bulbs on top that [to a six year old] looked like valves (I actually wired those mains light bulbs to a dimmer switch inside the box so I could adjust the glow just right, which being only six at the time scares me somewhat!). I tuned it into Caroline and Rat Trap was the fist tune I heard. I remember that Saturday afternoon all those years ago incredibly vividly.

San Francisco by Me First And The Gimme Gimmes. Blasting out very loudly as we cruised down Lombard Street in SF last year on our honeymoon. Awesome.
Or possibly The Beach Boys, as this was our second attempt which we filmed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLrl9tXw1w0

Cruised down Lombard? Blimey, I've only ever crawled down there at 0.05mph behind a load of other tourists!! However, I understand your sentiment!!Or possibly The Beach Boys, as this was our second attempt which we filmed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLrl9tXw1w0

So many, and not necessarily great music either.
Solsbury Hill (Peter Gabriel) - the pub juke box opposite my college
Boys of Summer (Don Henley) - making progress through some nice Lake District Roads in the 80's
Drops of Jupiter (Train) - Very posh hotel room in Maui - first time I heard it about 6 months before it got here.
We are the Champions (Queen) - hammering out of my brother's car stereo straight after my first motor racing championship win as I got back to the pits.
and hundreds more... I'll save you the boredom. You know what I mean.

In no order:
Stardust: Music Sounds Better With You. Hooning along the narrow, sun dappled country lanes of Cornwall in my 2.2 Astra SRi back in 2001.
Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No.2. The first Christmas I spent with my (future, at the time) wife.
House of Pain: Jump Around. Knight's Nightclub in Northampton as a student.
Tarrega: Memories of The Alhambra. The first holiday with my (future, at the time) wife in Vassiliki.

Good thread! I reckon music is the second most powerful trigger for memories. The first being smells - not in an unpleasant way I hasten to add, but distinctive perfumes, air fresheners and stuff. Maybe that's just me.
Anyway, songs...
Bittersweet Symphony - Being on the minibus on Dartmoor coming back from doing Ten Tors
Take Me Out/the whole of Snow Patrol's Final Straw album - Working in Courchevel '04-05
Got my mind set on you - Obergurgl trip this year
Mr Brightside - Newquay camping trip 2005
Set the fire to the third bar - Driving to work at Ford listening to XFM
