hey Guys,

GEtting married in July and we are doing the wedding music. have a long list of music that the missus and I love, but most of it is House/trance/Ibiza type stuff, which is great, but i'd like to get more than just my mates and I dancing.

So trying to avoid cheese like Abba etc can you recommend some music that a good portion of people will like? hadve some older stuf down (bit of bob marley, rolling stones, etc) but not many.

Also does anyone know any software that can mix 70 odd tracks together (or at least seemlessly run from one to another?). Happy to record a 5 hour MP3 but don't have a suitable program to do it- ideas?

To be honest, the so called cheesy stuff would be my first choice. Add superb dancing/singlaong music from the 1950s - present. I've done this with a few parties and have always had people from every age group enoying themselves immensely. You need music people know and that with that you can't go wrong with cheese!

Pug,
1/ software - yep, sure there's loads but my fav is OTSAV, fantastic bit of kit, used at DJ level as can beat mix etc, but has an auto facility to slip one into the next no probs - also most important it has auto levellling /compensation - so no varied volume which is what normally happens when playing any diff cd/mps. aint cheap, about £170 for the basic version, but if you're into music it's brilliant. use it on all my pc's at home.
extra features if you can be bothered:
make up to 128 categories, multiple search function......makes it excellent for inpromtu gatherings....if uyou want more info email me....

2/ am not a DJ but get roped into doing music for new years parties in the pub/birthday parties etc - 'because of the above! my view is that you need to have a realistic expectation of what you want/hope for from your function. loads of folks reckon that a wed recep will be a party - given the spread of ages normally at those 'do's - thats hard to achieve, it aint like having 60 mates who like similar'sih music round for a full on party.
my way of doing things is to work backwards:
what time will it finish, who/how many will be there at the end.
how long realistically will folks fdance for -
age spread - ie/ 20-70?

then i tend to work on the basis that the first part of the evening is background music that is inoffensive, some folks may tap their feet, perhaps have a dance but in reality its just there in the background: generally 'pop' based, a careful mix so that there isnt more than 2 /3 songs ( depending on length ) of 1 era/genre - so that no one gets fed up with listening to something thats out of their sphere: so 3 rock/roll songs = 2 modern songs length wise.....
typical 5 hr do would be:
2.5 hrs background
1-1.5hrs faster - not ness dance but can dance to it,
last hour or so full on floorfillers..
making sure that every 'uber floorfiller' is followed by another to keep people on their feet. given its a wedding that would be a mix of genres...

hope the wedding goes well.....

Ejay's Mix CD Producer is ok on a budget. TBH I wouldn't play any of the stuff you prefer at a wedding - it's too specialist for many. But if you do intend to just do a trance set, can I come? biggrin

Out of interest, will the first dance be you two facing the speakers, waving glow sticks in the air frantically? nuts

hey guys,

bit of a thread resurrection - hvae downloaded OTSav and its a great piece of kit so thanks to whoever recommended that.

Got quite a long way to sorting out the actual mix, but have realised that i don't have any music that will apeall to anyone over 40. Can anyone make a few specific recommendations please?

thanks

Jim
