Sold my Marshall JMP2203 recently (brilliant, but way to powerful and bulky) and am looking at the Fender Blues Deluxe to replace it

Going on what I have heard on youtube + a quick demo in a local store by the sales assistant (no left handed guitars in stock for my to try it out with) it sounded pretty great, a TS-9 tubescreamer seems to go very nicely aswell, and the general suggestion is that the Volume pot's need to be changed so you get a real linier response not just all or nothing.

Any Thoughts?

(currently got a Mex strat, but a AVRI will be on the cards at some point)

What sort of output do you reckon you need - the price point of the blues deluxe puts it right in the range of some smaller output but amazing quality amps such as Cornell Romany, Hayden Cotton Club and Cornford Harlequin (a bit bias here - I've just bought one). These are all small output valve amps that are deceptively loud and have incredible tone.

If you need the 40 watts then personally I love the sound of the Fender amps as long as you can drive them hard enough...

ETA - forgot to mention, I know I'm in Castle Donington which is a fair trek but if you are passing and want to hear my Harlequin you're more than welcome - if you bring you're own banjo you can plug in and play...

IIRC this amp is pretty much the same (I think one switchable drive stage less) than a Hot Rod Deluxe, which was my main gigging amp. It does do a very nice job, sounds good, and does indeed sound great when pushed with a TS-9. As has been mentioned the volume response isn't linear (unless you are doing a huge gig without a PA you will never get it past 3 with the normal pot if memory serves) but it wasn't a huge issue at all.

I don't know if I would pay the extra for the tweed though.

£25 extra for the tweed, it's the amp the Hot Rod is based on (without the more drive mode, but seemed a lot warmer when I heard them back to back) and seems to suit my requirements a bit more

40w is probably a bit much at the moment (saying that i'm coming from a 100w half stack), but I dont want to have to look at getting something bigger in the near future if I need to gig it, a liner pot is definately on the cards to increase the control

There seems to be a lot of little tweeks which can be performed, all in due time but definately something I will look into

40w is plenty for pub gigs etc. Anything bigger and you'll be mic'ing up the amp so it won't make any difference.

If you look closely on the left of the picture in that link you'll see my HRD being used by a mate of mine on tour, supporting James Blunt. The largest venue they played on that tour was something like 12,000 capacity.
