Looking for some thoughts how to get the overdrive sound that Frusciante is getting on this clip
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cO05mWVYkgI
the first bit is at 2 mins then an extended bit at 2.44 to the end. He's playing a strat through Marshall Jubilee and his overdrives seem to just be a Boss turbo distortion and a Fuzz Factory and having used both pedals I'm not sure that the Boss could do this or the Fuzz Factory could be tamed to be that precise.
Is he just driving the rig to valve break up to get the sound in which case would you get a similar effect driving a low output valve amp hard or are we in to the realms of 'it's a '62 strat on original pick ups and a vintage Marshall so don't bother trying'...
Cheers

Nail head hit. I have a `63 strat and there is no way you can recreate the sound of it, its easier to copy with a dirty sound but impossible on clean. Technique also plays a big part as well.
That's what I thought - technique is no issue I'm good enough to pull that off but even on my strat loaded with custom shop '62 reissue pickups I can't quite get the sound of a genuine pre CBS even when overdriven and certainly clean is a mile away. I've got another fuzz factory on the way as that's supposed to be the effect he uses and when I had mine I only had an '83 strat so we'll see what happens...

You are always welome to come over to Nottingham and try it on the `63, it would give you a beter idea of the tone first hand.
That's too good to refuse! I'll drop you a PM when the fuzz factory arrives if that's OK and set up a meet - I'm only in Castle Donington so not too far...Gassing Station | Music | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
