So many female artists at the moment

Every week seems to produce a brit new singer / songwriter (although sometimes not) female artist.
Just off the top of my head:
Pixie Lott
Paloma Faith
Diana Vickers
Marina and the Diamonds
Kate Nash
Ellie Goulding
Florence and the machine
All of which are in the top 100 of itunes at the moment, all appear to be on their first album (apart from Kate Nash). Each good / ok in their own right with a couple of really good ones. But honestly is there the long term market for this?
In the same way that Itunes (an others) allow us to download single songs rather than a whole album, are most of these people going to only have 1 albumn and maybe 2 / 3 records? Is the throughput of artists so high that they simply only get 1 shot and are forgotten within months.
I dunno, just a rambling observation.....
