Had band practice last night... the bands and my first ever! It was really good fun, I enjoyed it immensely. We put out a not unreasonable version of T-Rex 20th Century Boy, Foo Fighters Patience and Oasis Morning Glory, however there is still some way to go!!!

I dont know other peoples thoughts, but having been a groupie at a friends rehershal (they are pretty good) and seeing ours, my top tips for getting the most from the 3 hours are:

  • Make sure everyone learns the same version of the song
  • Make sure you have that version of the song with you to play
  • Make sure you can play the song at the same time & volume as the band
  • Get a singer to sing, again at the same volume as the band
  • Someone has to try and heard the cats and get some focus, without being a Nazi.
  • Don't chose a venue which also has dog training on at the same time, the puppies don't like it!!!
Any other top tips for me and the crew?

Actually someone does need to be a nazi. wink

It's best to start out just jamming - a nice easy blues in E or something just so everybody can figure out what they're doing. That way when you get to learning a song the only thing you are learning is the song, rather than that your mate REALLY needs to turn down his lead tone...

A few beers did help relax the old fingers and get "in to the grove" now to mention it wink.

I should have done it years ago... still at 32 all is not lost...

Definitely beers and any other vice that happens to take your fancy. And i tend to agree with the earlier post, someone has to take charge of things otherwise you end up spending 3 hours just pi55ing about and jamming, with the end result being zero.

Good luck
