Oil City Confidential, Julien Temple's film about Essex's finest musical export, Dr.Feelgood, is being shown on BBC4 next Friday. The same evening they are showing the Stiff Records documentary and an Ian Dury live show.

I saw OCC at the ICA last year and it's fantastic. Better than the Strummer film certainly which was itself a great bit of work.

If you're a fan of real live music don't miss it. The story of how 4 blokes from within 4 streets in Canvey Island became the biggest band in the UK for a while is great.

Dear Ferg,

I'm going to the cinema to see it (Oil City Confidential) on Sunday - Watershed Bristol, er, woo-hoo.
I first saw the good Drs at Reading 1975. Been a fan ever since, including Wilko's Solid Senders,

regards,
Jet

Hey Jet,
Given the choice the big screen is where to see it.
You'll love it, I guarantee. Not a lot of live footage, and what there is is mainly the Kursaal stuff which is available on DVD anyway, but the interviews are classic especially with Wilko and Sparko. You'll see why there's a Facebook page for "Wilko To Replace Patrick Moore On The Sky At Night"

I was a big fan for many years. Of Wilko and ALL his bands subsequently. He's my favourite living guitarist now dear old Mick Green has gone....

The first gig I ever went to was at Colne Municipal Hall to see Dr. Feelgood.

I was supposed to be seeing Gillan, but the gig was cancelled due to a powercut.

So instead my dad took me later on to see Dr Feelgood.

Great memories.

Not seen it yet, have just set it to be recorded and set my dad a message to tell him too.

Dear All,

an enjoyable film. It was at least as much a Wilko story as a Dr Feelgood one. Far more of a documentary than a live experience as other posters have commented.
Setting the scene of Convey in context and how the band members grew up was interesting too.
Oh, and don't do speed kids!

It was my first visit to the Watershed for some years. The seats were unusually comfortable for a cinema and the volume dynamic range was excellent - loud for the live clips, not shouty for the documentary stuff (the majority).
We had lunch afterwards overlooking the docks, very pleasant. I can confirm Bristol stout and organic lager are delicious smile

regards,
Jet

thanks for the heads up - saw it last night, it was excellent.

They made their rise to success sound very easy but you just know it wasn't. It did however make me want to play live again!

Wilko is what you might call 'intense' isn't he smile

It's funny, I've long suspected that my idea that the Feelgoods got progressively less interesting as Wilko was replaced by Gypie was replaced by Johnny Guitar was replaced by Gordon was replaced by Steve Walwyn... was all just a snob thing, but actually Wilko was just streets ahead of the others.
I need to get out and see him again now.....
