Just got one! woohoo

And thought I'd stick something up here in case anyone else is trying - despite the earlier message on the website tickets aren't actually sold out (or weren't 5 minutes ago), they are/were still there if you keep refreshing the site.

I did too! 11th and final (at least until my daughter wants to go in 2020) for me.

Normal tickets now sold, coach tickets still available...

This is the problem this year with regards to clashes.

The Chemical Brothers (one of fave bands) clash with the massive box tick that would be U2 (as I'd never pay to see one of their shows)

Orbital (fave band) clash with the living legend that is Stevie Wonder

Plus anything else special that happens and I suspect it being the 40th year and Michael's last one ever there will be all sorts of stuff going on.

Where's the best site for line up rumours these days? Festivals.co.uk seems to be very conservative in the acts it's mentioning - there are quite a few allegedly 'self confirmed' bands not on there.

I can't wait to see Muse again. Caught their gig on the Pyramid Stage in about 2003 and it was truly epic. One of the less well known acts that I'm really looking forward to seeing is Aynsley Lister (young UK blues guitarist), been a big fan of his since his first album came out about ten years ago. Depending on the other headliners the day they're on I'd quite like to see Orbital too. That and just grab some pear cider and soak up the atmosphere...

Yeah that's good advice.

It's an 8ft solid fence buried 4ft deep.

Then there is a 10ft no mans land which is constantly patrolled and an 8ft chainlink fence inside that.

Yes, the fence is crazy these days. Even the pikeys have given up trying to jump it/tunnel under it.

Those were the days. I grew up quite close to Glastonbury and my first few visit were either through the fence or straight through the residents' gate after speaking nicely to the security people. smile

The fence is indeed pretty formidable now (or certainly was in 2008 when I last went).

I think there is some truth in the claims that Glasto has lost something since those days back in the '90s. Fortunately though it's also lost many of the less desirable pikeys, the manic levels of overcrowding and the overflowing toilets. The last time I went there it was like a trip to the Ritz compared to my first visit in 1998. And anyone who thinks Glasto is commercial only needs to try ...well, any of the other big festivals. V was particularly amusing in that regard - there wasn't a single square foot wasn't being used to generate revenue in some way. Comparatively speaking Pilton still has it.

It's still the best festival in the world but it is a stload more commercial than it was.

I don't like the massive Orange tent for a start.

They've also got to the point now that they have to make the village, stages and accesses bigger. The campsite getting bigger is fine but there are more tickets, more people and the same old festival centre with the same old restricted access over the bridges and the absurd policing that now goes on is making it even worse. Last year at Kasabian, which was properly rammed, there were mounted police on both entrances to the field which was causing chaos. Just ps off out of the way and let it work itself out, it has done for years.

Yep. I do miss the days when half the crowd had a bong in their hands and that little bloke used to roller skate round the dance tent plying his wares with a rythmic chant of "LSD speed and E!" I hasten to add I'm not a closet drug addict, it just seems that things have 'cleaned up' quite a bit.

I don't know... I got a smile and a wink from a copper when I last went, as he walked past when I happened to be smoking a bong. There was also a guy with a bin bag full of shrooms stood in the middle of the stone circle field shouting 'Pills and mushrooms, get your pills and mushrooms' market trader style.

Aluminium Ladder, fitness and speed.

Last time I went to Glasto was '95. As 6th formers with no money, we scaled the fence.

I gather the security is a little more exciting, but it's still a doable challenge.

It's 12ft now, with an overhang to stop people catching a rope on it.

I think you'd need a ladder both sides to avoid crippling yourself and you'd have to be seriously quick about it. They have floodlights and guard towers...

Have to say - without having seen them before (I may reconsider) - I'm not too fussed about U2. It's obviously a personal thing though; I'm probably most excited about Muse who seem to attract a lot of vitriol at the moment.

I'll have seen the Chems a month before and as you know they'll never top THE gig so whilst tricky I am erring towards U2.

They've said it's just them, no nonsense, no lights, no fireworks, no fking about, just 4 blokes with instruments. I think it could end up being quite special, in spite of the fact Bono is a .
