I've borrowed some Def Leppard CDs off of my uncle (because that's how cool I am) and 3:42 into Let's get rocked, and I very much approve!
I'd call it AC/DC but more mellow.
On the other hand Feeder are boring. Was hoping their songs were more like Buck Rodgers and Just a day, but their not.
Also Oasis are st.
Got some Stereophonics I haven't started on yet as well.
I plan on raiding CEX exchange tomorrow for some Paramore and Pink Floyd, Albums / Single recommendations of Floyd welcome.
I'm not really sure where the thread can go from here....

.....which is probably one of their very worst songs. Check out Hysteria (the album) for a perfect representation of well produced, commercial '80s stadium rock. That was their defining glory although the rawness of the early albums (On through the night etc) shows a good rocking band. Pyromania was the stepping stone from the raw band to the polished final article.I've always had a soft spot for Leppard, 2 great guitarists in Collen and Clarke (RIP), and Collen and Campbell work together well too. Throw in some cracking riffs and hooks and you can see why for a while in the late '80s they were one of the biggest bands in the world.
me neither. in one statement you write off everything oasis have done in seventeen years yet wax lyrical about a below average pub rock band from sheffield with no talent whose only notable song is a cliche ridden midlife criss appeal to the kids....
go search out some real rock bands like "the living end", "almighty", "everclear", mother love bone"......

I'd heard a fair amount of Def Leppard in the past and never really liked it.. Seemed a bit too over produced and digital sounded.
However, I heard the opening song (Rock Brigade) off their debut 'On Through The Night', and I have to admit I really liked it so decided to try the whole album. I've only listened to it a couple of times, and Rock Brigade is the stand out track for me but the whole album isnt bad at all. There's definitely some NWOBHM on there.

trying not to turn this thread into this band that band, but as Pablo advisis you need to investigate The Almighty, an awesome band in their day and no mistake.Best of all, Sir Ricky Warwick is touring the uk at the moment as well.

I remember going to Reading Rock in 1981 (ish) and seeing Def Leppard bottled off stage. They then went to US. Mutt Lang tarted them up, and woosh - success. Always were, and always will be a truly aweful band IMO.
i listen to planet rock a lot and when something like armageddon comes on, i dont actually mind, but the def leppard stuff circa early nieties was just utter pish. complete nonsense.
in the early days, along with the likes of budgie and so on, they were a credible british rock band but after the release of lets get rocked that credability sank quicker than a rock.
i wasnt trying to compare them with others or start a band vs band thread, just that there are loads of other, and yes imho better, bands worth checking out before someone starts praising the likes of def leppard as much as the op...
and as for the oasis comments, almost every indie band would chew their feet off to have just one of his tunes in their back catalogue...

Rocks Off and Hello America for me...not heard them for years, bought the LP when it was released never liked their later stuff, too stadium/hair rock for meHowever, I heard the opening song (Rock Brigade) off their debut 'On Through The Night', and I have to admit I really liked it so decided to try the whole album. Def Leppard are OK. Never really was a massive fan of them. Pyromania is a good album, and they did indeed have talent, but they went too commercial IMHO. The stuff they pour out now is dire

No, you just don't like them, there is a huge gulf of dofference between the two. I'm not mad keen on Oasis, but they're not st. This is the music forum after all, it's not too much to ask for people to be little more discerning rather than most people, for whom music is simply background noise in their car.
those two tracks reminded me why I wen off Def Leppard. I think Rocks Off sounds a lot like Saxon, who I loved, even joining the fan club (the dreadfully embarrassingly named, Saxon Militia Guard! - I did get a studded wristband though)

If you're new to Leppard, then you'll probably not know the drummer has but one arm.
Lost one overturning his Stingray between Rotherham and Sheffield IIRC - he got thrown out of the car, his arm didn't. Ouch.
Think it happened after the release of Pyromania.

For a bit of nostalgia I don't mind listening to some Leppard as I like them. Along with alot of the big haired rock bands of the 80's they were easy listening between Metallica and Anthrax etc.
There were some decent songs and some ste too TBH. Still have Iron Maiden on my Ipod for a blast on the bike.
