All

need some ideas of good tracks to jam to... my band seems to only be coherent where we can fit around a repeating bass line, or maximum one which repeats for the verses, and one for the chorus.

so far we have:
1. Steve Miller band - the joker
2. Skunk Anansis - weak

both have short, simple bass riffs, which repeat throughout the song.

any more ideas?

cheers,

UV

Why not get hold of some sort of software and put your own basslines together? Try Dance Ejay on the PC or Music 2000 for Playstation. I think you can create your own basslines in those packages.

Failing that, let me know a sequence and I'll knock a loop together for you. (Email me via my profile.)

I'd pre-empt this by saying I'm no muso but kind of get the mechanisms of music so the following may not work but....

If anyone has a Mac, have a play with Garage Band. There's loads of bass loops that could form the basis of stuff for your band. (Friend does something called musical landscaping and uses this quite often).

As for existing tracks - check out LCD Soundsystem - particularly a track called Yeah. The instrumental mix of this may work.

Try any U2 tune.

Adam Clayton is, I'd say, the least technically proficient bassist ever to earn a living from "playing" the instrument. Thus any U2 bassline should be a piece of piss.
