Last.fm - Anyone else a fan?
Discussion
I've started using last.fm over the past few months and I'm finding that I'm really liking it.
It's not really a spotify competitor, you can't just pick any track/album to listen to but don't let that put you off. Rather than aiming to replace your CD collection, see it instead as a radio replacement because this is what it is fantastic at.
You can pick a mood or artist you are in the mood for and it will go off and play similar music that it thinks you will like (based on what you have in your itunes/window media library, what you listen to regularly and what you have clicked like/dislike on.
It's perfect for at work or as background music as you don't have to keep picking different things to listen to and it is introducing me to all sorts of music that I had never heard before.
Anyone else here use it? It definitely gets a big thumbs up from me!

Been using it for a year or so...the radio-stations are a great idea, and if you use the "love this track" button it does seem to learn what you do/don't like. Prefer putting last.fm radio on than stuff off my music collection as it's easier to randomise.
Have already found a few new (and not-so-new) bands through it.

I used to love it and used it a fair bit, integrated the charts onto my website etc. Then a few years back the parent company sold usage data to the RIAA because it was noted people had scrobbled an album that wasn't released yet. The RIAA then targetted the people identified through Last.FM.
I don't download music as a general rule, and pretty much my entire collection is ripped from CD's, but I disagree with the companies ethics hence stopped using it. Shame really - it seemed like a great service!
