Mainly because I'm very bored at work, and also because I'm off to the Caribbean next week, I've been trying to think what my Desert Island Discs would be. I can't say I've ever listened to the show, although I probably will now it's available on iPlayer.

Rules:
8 Albums or pieces of music
1 book (which I understand can not be Shakespeare or The Bible, Koran, Torah etc. as you already get those?)
1 Luxury (which cannot help you escape the imaginary island)

Feel free to explain each choice or not, interested to see what we can come up with. Would we need driving music, for example?

OK, off the top of my head, here are my choices. They would probably change if I spent longer thinking about it though.

Albums:
Sabaton - The Art of War (Genius)
Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind (Have limited myself to oe Maiden album, else there would have been about 5 in the list)
AC/DC - Thunderstruck (Just for the title track alone)
DragonForce - Inhuman Rampage
TerrorVision - Regular Urban Survivors
Status Quo - Heavy Traffic (Everyone needs some Quo)
KOL - Only by the Night (Yeah a bit generic)
Scouting For Girls (Yes it's a bit/lot ghey, but have good memories to that one)

Book:
Zombie Survival Guide - Max Brooks (Although this would probably be rendered redundant if I'm the only one on the island, in which case I'll substitute for World War Z. Or Brief History of Time)

Luxury:
If it's a desert island, then my modified Suzuki Jimny (with a full tank of petrol)

Had to think quite hard about this. I'm assuming the island has a cd player. And that I'm already equipped to survive.

Albums
1) Metallica: S&M - One of my all time favourite albums. Plus it would save me from wanting to take every Metallica album!
2) AC/DC: Back in Black - If there are natives on the island and they are wanting to have a bit of a party, then this is the album to put on!
3) Motorhead: Hammered - First ever Motorhead gig I went to was this tour, Manchester Apollo. Reminds me of my teens.
4) Amy MacDonald - This is the Life - Reminds me of my girlfriend.
5) Foo Fighters: One by One - It reminds me of a road trip I went on with a bunch of good friends.
6) The Eagles: Hell Freezes Over - Reminds me of being a kid and being in the car with my Dad.
7) Classic FM: Feel good - I like a bit of classical music, and this would cheer me up.
8) Rage Against The Machine: Self titled - Has amazed me since my teens and still amazes me now. Tom Morello's skill. Unmatched.

Book
Chronicles of Narnia. Loved them as a kid, I think they would keep me entertained.

Luxury item
My acoustic guitar. Unless the cd player that I can use for my CD's has an auxiliary input and a jack lead, in which case I'd take my Les Paul.

Undecided about the music yet (or book for that matter)...

Luxury item? One of these bad boys, without any doubt.

It's taken me a while to think of them, but for what it's worth, here they are:

Music
1. Green Day - Dookie (Has there ever been a better pop-punk album?)
2. Nirvana - Nevermind (Breed, Drain You and Territorial Pissings are favourites)
3. The Offspring - Smash (Either this or Ixnay, very hard decision)
4. Elastica - Elastica (Best of the Britpop bunch, imo)
5. Silverchair - Frogstomp (Must listen to this when I get home. Genius album for a bunch of 15 year olds)
6. Bob Dylan - Freewheelin' (You don't always need amps that go up to 11 and power chords to vent anger)
7. Son House - Collected (all the original 1930s and '40s stuff with the '60s stuff on there as well. There will never be a finer delta bluesman.)
8. Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness (Despite all my rage, I am still just lost on an island...)

Book
JG Ballard - Empire of The Sun.

Luxury
Lagavulin 16yo.

Albums are luxury!
The original show had 78rpm discs so only a maximum of three and a half minutes per side.
The luxury item must not be able to be used as shelter either.

Question: Which castaway took a blow up doll as his luxury item?

Well if I could then I'd take somebody who I care about with me. There is no point having all that spare time and potential fun if you can't share it with somebody who you love.

You lose points for Metallica (they suck) and Branson (he's a knob) but redeem yourself with everything else, especially Bullet In A Bible. I was there when it was being recorded, both nights. The guys running the bar got to know me fairly well...oh, and I had a *very* good time with a young lady in the woods towards stage left up the hill.

Albums wouldn't matter as I would take my ipod & dock and have 500 albums with me.

Agree with taking Narnia collection though, that would be a good choice
