I'm suffering from severe headaches and tinnitus at the minute - recommend me something to fall asleep to!

I'm finding dodgy newage spa music, the lighter moments of Boards Of Canada, some Sigur Ros, and one or two bits of Orb helpful.
Autechre and FSOL:Lifeforms are too dark. And i'm struggling with anything with too much of a beat (even bits of Orb:Blue Room) to it.

Any suggestions? Classical or Ambient/chilled would be ideal. Just needs to be laidback and ethereal, and not get on my tits.

I find the best stuff to fall asleep to is that which has minimal vocals, is relatively slow and downbeat/drone. That instantly rules out quite a few shoegaze/ambient/electronic artists. I sometimes put on one of the following when I can't sleep:

- Brian Eno (Discreet Music/Music For Airports)
- Coil (Time Machines)
- Slowdive (Pygmalion)

Brian Eno should be a good starting point.

I was going to recommend FSOL until I saw you'd already tried them. No one album stands out as being particularly suitable for falling asleep to, as their albums are quite diverse and move from drone to upbeat. But, if you made your own FSOL mix album of songs similar to "Everyone in the World Is Doing Something Without Me" then it might work?

Mysterious semblance at the strand of nightmares. And most of the rest of Phaedra.

Meets "laidback and ethereal", no comment on whether or not it will get on your tits.

Probably won't work for you, but whenever I need a daytime nap I stick on the Nizlopi album, sends me right off - no idea why as it's not exactly 'ambient'.

Phaedra. Haven't listened to that in a very long time ... will have to dig it out tonight.

First track that came to my mind was Jarre - Waiting for cousteau. The title track. As from the CD. 45 minutes of random, laid back, out of this world sound.

Air's Alone In Kyoto works for me. Hadn't thought of Goldfrapp. Will playlist those up and look into the others.

This might help find the artists you're looking for. No DJs, no adverts but loads of quality chill out and ambient. Works wonders on your PC at work too.

Tangerine Dream - Mota Atma

This is amazing, get through the initial 50secs and float away. The bass synth is hypnotic, the harmonics sublime. Unfortunately not for going to sleep though as you will be very relaxed but left cold at the end wink

Although I love Goldfrapp normally, it's out. The stylofone really hurt my head.
Nick Drake seems ok, tho.

Brian Eno - Ambient Albums 1(Music For Airports), 2(Plateaux Of The Mirror), 3(Apollo Atmospheres And Sounds) - 4 (On Land). Probably Another Day On Earth too although not AS ambient.

Belong - October Language
Max Richter - Memoryhouse
Birchville Cat Motel - Beautiful Speck Triumph
Tim Hecker - Haunt Me, Haunt Me Do It Again
Eluvium - Talk Amongst The Trees, Copia, When I Live By The Garden And The Sea, Lambent Material
Stars Of The Lid - And Their Refinement Of The Decline
Avro Part - Te Deum

Hope this helps, all are stunning to me.

F##k Buttons: Tarot Sport
Explosions in the sky: Earth is not a cold dead place
M83: Before the dawn heals us
Mint Royale: On the ropes
Lemon Jelly: LemonJelly.KY

All of the above are reasonably chilled albums in my book, but others may disagree!

Lemon Jelly is ace, but not what I'm looking for.
Will investigate the suggestions. I had JMJ as a teenager, will start with that and Eno and take if from there.
