I play the drums
Discussion
Hello all,
hi PH'ers,
I play drums as a hobby when my young kids give me a second alone.
It's cheaper than my RX8 was and just as exciting if you get it right.
I'm recording straight into the laptop now, so rid of the pad noise. It was minus 2 in my room this morning. Brrrr

When I first started playing, I thought I'd play through speakers sometimes too. That proved unsuccessful, as it has to be way too loud to drown out the rubber pad noise and I play when the kids go to bed. so now I record straight into the laptop.
The foam is actually very poor soundproofing it just stops echoing.

How long have you been playing?
If you arent using a click track then thats pretty good as its notoriously difficult to listen to yourself and a backing track and get the volumes right to hear whether you're 'In time' or not.
Are you playing in a band, thats the best way to improve your feel, technique, and very often sharpen up on your timing (assuming you're not playing alongside a really wayward guitarist/bass player etc).
When I used to use one of those kits I just put it through a normal stereo amp and speakers to practice at room volume with the rest of the band, not sure why you should be getting so much noise from the kit (I know the plastic makes a certain amount of noise, and I was quite a hard player), but try a lay off it a little and improve technique rather than playing it as you would an acoustic kit perhaps.
