I think he's an excellent guitarist, but his songs sound like mindless pap to me and I can't get on with his singing. Seems like a cool guy though.

Ordinarily I'd just write him off and move on, but every now and again, I hear something I really, really like so I have to pay attention to him. eg: This cover of California Dreaming/All Along the Watchtower - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNl-HpjnoOo

Thought this was funny too smile

I like the guy, although I completely understand why a lot of people wouldn't / don't. I went to see him in Wolverhampton on Wednesday and it's fair to say he had the crowd in the palm of his hand all night. I suspect he was pleased to have a crowd there to listen to the music rather than to scream at him like they do in the states.

Fanastic band too. The two names I knew were Steve Jordan on the drums and Robbie McIntosh playing the guitar.

My favourite parts from the gig were the improvised bits. One was a drum led jam and the other was a random country version of Who Says. A couple of links below for anyone interested.

Is Pino Palladino still playing bass for him? Super heavy bass player.

Not at the moment. I think they spent most of their time together doing the John Mayer Trio and during studio work. I was surprised to see Steve Jordan there because he was the third part of the trio rather than part of his pop band.

Ever since I found out who he was I'm amazed how often Pino pops up in concerts played by all kinds of artists. He certainly knows how to play!

I think so, he also played bass on the D'Angelo album Voodoo, which has some of the best grooves recorded in the last 20 years.

He's a talented chap - but appears to be coasting at the moment. His last album was tediously MOR or re-hashed earlier work, plus the puzzling addition of a really bad cover of Crossroads that doesn't fit at all!
