As above really, just wondering what albums you think are superbly recorded/mastered and shine on a decent system?

I remember some DJs/pub sound system fitters saying Madonna's albums were good for that.

Has to be classical music of some kind.

Rock/pop is biased towards middle frequencies and is usually heavily compressed to restrict the dynamic range.

Orff - Carmen Biryani. yes

Though the Prodigy had a few that would test the speaker stands/doors/nearby windows.

I haven't had a hi-fi for almost ten years now - a PC with a great soundcard and good speakers handles all my noise needs.

But back in the day of a proper hifi and vinyl albums, for some reason I always use to reach for Love Like Blood by Killing Joke, to demo the system.

A friend who was into 'HiFi' always used to use Michael Jackson to demo his systems.

For car audio (i.e. bass biased - rather than SQ) someone else recommended DMX - Ain't no Sunshine.

I have a range of what I like to listen to, but with some though given to showing up excessive brightness, poor bass control, whether the speakers are quick etc. etc.

Katherine Jenkins - Nessun Dorma,
Ocean Colour Scene - Get Blown Away,
Kooks - Naive (just the opening 10-15seconds)
MGMT - Kids
The Doors - Riders of the storm
Mumford & Sons - Little Lion Man
Holst - Jupiter

Just about any SACD but especially Jeff Wayne - War Of The Worlds & Propaganda - A Secret Wish. Probably two of the best SACD's ever released.

SACD? yikesYou need Vinyl!

Album wise I might use Street Life by the Crusaders, or 'Take Five' ( Dave Brubeck), or 'Moanin'' (Art Blakey) or 'Maiden Voyage' (Herbie Hancock). All of these sound stunning on a good system.

May be some truth in that, but it is a bit of a sweeping statement IMHO. There are a lot of crap classical recordings out there too. I've bought a few in my time!
