Electric Double Basses
Discussion
I am fancying an electric upright at the moment. The internet seems to have been flooded by these 3/4 size Stagg stick basses that are selling for about £370:
I had go of one the other day. The sound seemed okay and it plays well enough but you can see where they have scrimped a bit on finish and build quality. I have seen others (like the Warwick Triumph which is based on the old Framus) but everything seems to be in the upper price range.
I would mostly be playing jazz/blues/acoustic rock etc. - I do not intend on playing classical stuff. I already play bass guitar (including fretless) to a high standard.
What I am wondering:

What I am wondering:
- Is the Stagg any good?
- Are there any good alternatives? (below £800)
- How hard is it to get used to for a bass guitarist?

I used to play Double Bass, and I tried an electric one and i didnt get on with it. Don't know why, but I just found the shape of it annoying
Look rather cool though.
What sort of strings were on it and what style do you play? As I understand it, blues, jazz and rockabilly players prefer gut strings but Steel strings were introduced to increase the sustain and volume and make it easier to play with a bow. The Stagg bass is steel strung and I gather they all are. Look rather cool though.
