What's the consensus on them on PH?
IMO one of the greatest bands to have ever existed, yet I know they can provoke hatred amongst rock fans.
Have a watch of this so you can realise Chris Martin isn't the dick most people think he is. In all ionterviews he comes across as one of the most humble, self-depricatinf musicians I've ever seen interviewed.

They're aren't a rock band. Bland pap thats acceptable to the masses maybe, but definitely not rock.
I've kept Speed of Sound and Talk on the mp3 player, as I do kinda like those two tracks. But almost everything else they've done is just dire and ever so slightly depressing.

Parachutes was a fantastic debut, and reminds me of my first summer at uni (2000).
Yup, a good album. Listen to from time to time.Hub said:
Second album was alright, but the singles overplayed everywhere
Agreed, like the album but at the time they overplayed it but that's the nature of popular music, nice now to listen without having heard the songs in public for while. Every now and again will listen.

X&Y was pretty rubbish
Agreed, things aren't looking good. Just cannot listen to more than 1 or 2 songs.Hub said:
The last album however, was brilliant.
You what? It's a big pile of stinking poo. The single Viva La Vida is appalling, it's sounds like a child banging on a kids keyboard, which was probably how it was written (either that or copied ).Saw Coldplay at CPalace a few years back, venue was too big so musically didn't sound great (nature of open air events I suppose), anyway Supergrass were supporting and I enjoyed them far more.
tosh - they are listed alongside James Blunt, Snow Patrol and Keane in my all time list of worthlessness.
However, I have to doff my cap in their direction for being as successful as they are - true exponent of the premise 'you can't fool all of the people all of the time, but if you can fool some of the people some of the time you'll be successful'.
