Chaps,

I see from some of the posts on here that a few of you guys are into your metal and suchlike. Until last year I played in a sludge band called Agent of the Morai. www.myspace.com/theagentofthemorai If you like Eyehategod/Iron Monkey/Weedeater then it might be your bag. Let me know anyway.

Chevron.

Anything that gets you wanting to over-arm a ride cymbal is good by me. Current favourites are Floor and Torche - both astounding bands.

Im guessing you're a drummer then?

Torche are awesome, was really playing Meanderthal a lot a few months ago. It isnt my main focus musically, but it has been in the past and ill always listen to it. Favorites are Isis, Pelican, Redsparowes and Neurosis of course but I drifted into increasingly shoegazey stuff like Jesu ( anything by Justin Broadrick )Nadja etc and then all the post-rock scene...

Of the bands listed, Neurosis are by far my favourites - they provided me with one of the greatest gig experiences of my life at Roadburn a couple of years ago. The last time I saw Pelican (with Torche by coincidence) they were pretty dire. Shame really as the first couple of records are sweet but they came across like a bad Dad Rock band. I like to post-rock stuff but have a relatively short attention span for it unfortunately - suspect I'm not clever enough. My primary love is that whole late 90s noicecore scene - Coalesce, Cave-In, Converge, DEP, Deadguy, etc. Can't beat a dischordant riff played in a time signature you can't understand...

Shame about Pelican, The Fire In Our Throats and Australasia are great, but I also found the last 2, especially their latest (What We All Come To Need) weak. I would love to see Torche, you're lucky. Converge are definately one of my favorite bands, their new album is superb.

If you have last fm, here is mine.

Also really into Botch and Bane. Need to check out Coalesce.
Got Glassjaw coming up at the end of the month if you're into themsmile

Botch are one of my all-time favourites! Absolutely astounding band and one whom I wish I'd seen. Did you know they and Dillinger played the Nottingham Old Angel back in't day? What I'd give to have seen that show.

I've been fortunate to see and play with some absolutely ballistic bands down the years, I used to go to over 100 gigs a year when I was a student. Torche toured with Baroness a few years back - that was something else. I doubt I'll make Glassjaw but one of my friend's bands (they're called Pulled Apart by Horses) is supporting a couple of the dates so look out for them.

Seeing the stuff you're into - have you heard Amen Ra? Dutch band in that Cult of Luna/Neurosis vein. They're pretty special and well worth a download.

Botch are too good, I remember hearing Unifying Themes Redux for the first time and O'Fortuna, almost took my head off. You're lucky to have seen so many, I try my best but you can't be everywhere. A few of my friends are really into PABH and have seen them a few times, ill be at the Manchester show so ill get to see them, Shapes too, I dont think people can quite believe the bill.

Will try and get some of Amen Ra smile

Too true, mate. I saw every band I conceivably could for about 4 years and made myself bored of the whole scene. All things in moderation is the best way I think and you also see so much dross when you go to a lot of shows. PABH are a cool band and it's great to see them doing so well. Lee the drummer is the lad I know, he's been knocking around Leeds for years now and gave us one of our first gigs so I have a lot to be grateful to him for. Been going back to my HC roots tonight with Walls of Jericho. Well silly.

Pulled Apart By Horses are brilliant, they were going to play one of my festival things last year but I didn't get the sponsorship sorted in time so it ended up not happening. Still really need to see them though.
Throwdown are brilliant, if you like them you'll probably like a band on my roster called No Consequence (www.myspace.com/noconsequence).
Words cannot describe how fantastic Converge are, they're the reason most of these bands are around today.

Main preference has to be hardcore though, mostly underground UK hardcore like Brutality Will Prevail, Burn Down Rome, Cold Snap, Almost Home etc.

I must be showing my age by not having seen any of those hardcore bands! Are Burn Down Rome on TDON, or did I dream that? I still love the odd dose of hardcore, but not like in my youth. I'll still put Indecision's Release the Cure on from time to time and floorpunch my way round the kitchen like it's '97 again. Saw Throwdown once - with 18 Visions many years ago, bit silly. Converge are an amazing band and still kicking out great records. They've influenced virtually every band of their ilk for 15 years now - that's some record. Although I must confess to finding them underwhelming live, although I've only seen them a few times.

I am listening to an online radio for most of my PH time called K666Radio on www.stonerrock.com .
It is not only stoner, but also drone/sludge (Black Mayonnaise does my head in though),
and some good new(ish) and classic Rock, 24/7 and no adverts, no moderation, just music.
My fave bands from there are "Five Horse Johnson" and "Clutch", not exactly stoner but I like them anyway.

Yeah, bit gutting really. The first time they were quite good but the one time I saw them in Leeds, it was dire. If you compare them to Coalesce (probably the best band I've ever seen) or Dillinger it was a bit depressing. I absolutely love them on record though!

Can't go wrong with Five Horse Johnson and Clutch - all about those grooves. Of that kind of stuff, Kyuss are my favourites though.

Oh that chump? Well he's an Accountant, what can I say?! Playing music like that is a nice catharsis when you work hard in a profession - never worry about stress when you can smash a drumkit for half an hour on an evening.
