Rummaging through the CDs recently I was reacquainted with a few bands that I really thought would make it big but never did, specifically;

Love and Money
The Big Dish
Aldo Nova
FM
Bloius Somme
Magnum

Showing my age no doubt!

Love and Money..... I remember "Winter" being released, and working on commercial radio at the time, I played it TO DEATH! Still think it is a great song now,

Bloius Somme.... do you mean Belouis Some?.... and that GREAT video! Albeit censored on YouTube!

I recall a band called The Hooters in the late 80s/early 90s..... "Satellite" and "Karla with a K" (Although reading their biog again, they were actually pretty successful!)

FM..... Funny you mention them

I know and have played recently with all those guys in 3 or 4 bands they're all in now. Steve Overland's one the best singers in the UK

I really liked Ultrasound... watched an interesting interview with Saul Galpern (their label manager) on the web the other night (can't find it right now due to an aggressive web filter, but was linked on Wikipedia if you want to dig it out! frown ) that seemed to suggest they were a nightmare to work with and burnt a lot of cash failing to complete a debut LP!

Check these guys out The Virginmary's

If they don't make it there is no hope left for decent rock music.

Yeah - great band. Coldplay of the 80's.

Seem to recall that their drummer (Steve Lutkather) died of some rare pollen allergy when gardening. Not the greatest of rock n roll deaths!

Mother Tongue. Saw them supporting The Cult in Cardiff in early 90s.

I loved "Winter" too. Only this morning "Hallelujah Man" popped up on my iPod whilst listening on shuffle.

Steve Lukather was Totos guitar player, your thinking of Jeff Pocaro, who was Totos drummer. Luke is very much alive.

Tesla - still around and were quite popular in the late 80's/early 90's but should have been bigger than the likes of Bon Jovi.

And agree with Thunder, was a shame when they called it a day recently. Great live band.

Also, Tyketto. There first album still sounds great, and singer Danny Vaughn has been churning out solo stuff without any real rocognition for years.

Jeff Porcaro it was. He died from inhaling a garden spray. He suffered some form of reaction which lead to a heart attack.

Responsible for one of my favorite drum beats on Totos' Hold the Line.

Trespass. Missed the boat with the whole NWOBHM thing, don't know why.

Jeff Porcaro played on the album but was not a band member.

I know a couple of Love and Money members, one very well. They are all still active and professional in the music scene.
I also know a Big Dish member who is now a big player in music education.

I am still surprised Del Amitri were not bigger.
There is an American singer called Stephanie McKay who I always thought would be huge but never heard of after her first album.

Therapy? are apparently still going. Had some reasonable success with their album Troublegum (which I still listen to on a regular basis), but otherwise have sadly disappeared from view.

My current favourite is a chap called Tom McRae. Just about to release his 5th album (I think), called Alphabet of Hurricanes, and for some reason - probably because he doesn't write chirpy pop songs - he doesn't get airplay. Pisses me off.

I also remember getting a free tape with Kerrang! magazine about a million years ago when I was at Uni, on which was a track called Losing Streak by a band called The Dawn. I listed to that song until the tape wore out and ever since then I've tried in vain to find some mention of them without success!

The Almighty - "just add life" was an awesome album and should have been a brit-rock classic
