Right, I bought my brother Logic for Christmas and he now needs a Mic and Firebox interface thingy. Any suggestions or recommendations for either? What should I be looking for?

Thanks guys.

He'll be recording voice only, as as far as I know they will be making purely hip hop.

There is only one real choice, and still less than a £100.

even Amazon sell them now

I would go for a Shure 57 rather than a 58.

Follow a quick tutorial on removing the x-former and you have a pretty usable mic' for not a lot of cash.

Interface, keep it simple. M-Audio, Lexicon, Mackie and so on. They all do them, they are all ok, none are great until you reach apogee symphony or prism orpheus level.

You won't get top studio level stuff but you can achieve decent results for not a lot of outlay.

If you can add another £100 or so onto the mic' budget look into Rode, Heil or Beyer and you can get some great stuff.

Be REALLY careful buying an SM58 from anywhere including Amazon. There are loads of Chinese made inferior copies on the market - a quick google will help you distinguish them.

My brother just finished a fairly long process of getting his money refunded for exactly this.
