December Mix - House
Discussion
Well I have a few sets lined up for the beginning of next year – hurrah! But they aren’t Trance sets (Booooo!), but beggars can’t be choosers, so I have been trawling the big old interweb for some House. I have found a great deal, and the next three mixes will be House (including Hard Cheese 3).
But this is the first, and I wanted to give you people something that would forget the winter wonderland we have been in over the last few weeks, and transport you to the sun-drenched sea. Imagine this mix as your first cocktail of the day – and what a great day you’ve had. Woken up in your own time, on crisp linen sheets, with your special person beside you. A lazy day on a spotless beach, or by the villa pool, the hot sun broken by the crystal blue waters when you chose to go in them. A lovely locally-grown lunch, a siesta, more chilling, followed by that first cocktail of the night.... the way the alcohol starts to tingle on your sun-touched flesh, and the promise of a good night starts to flow through your system. Are you there yet?
Well, sorry to bring you back, but the hard reality must come at some point. The title actually comes from my daughter, who seems to be developing rather an interesting accent – if you can imagine ‘East Enders’ cockney with some of the finer points of a Hampshire/Portsmouth accent (she actually broke out the word ‘Dimlo’ Chris!).
As for the mixing and track selection etc – I have done better, but a) It’s live and not programmed, and b) I am really having issues with mixing in key – I know I can really hear a difference now, but I’m having issues with the right tracks and proper progression through the CD. So I said sod it with this one...
Finally, can I thank everyone for their support, kind words, kinder feedback and hints, music, and everything else! Have a superb 2010 people – we’re going into the teens!
Enjoy!

I'll be honest with you, I'm not really the biggest fan of this more commercial sounding house stuff. However, I actually really enjoyed this mix, tracks 2 and 4 were defo my favs, will be looking to bag myself a copy of the Scope track later on, do yo know where I can buy it? Was tidily mixed, if I dare say a little lacking in creativity. But either way a nice solid selection and most enjoyable, brightened up a drab Monday morning, will be one I shall be keeping.

Hey Don
re this part of your post: "I am really having issues with mixing in key"
My best mate is a DJ (smalltime stuff) and uses a programme on his laptop which tells him what key all the tracks are in so he can pick as appropriate.
Probably teaching you suck eggs here but I can get the name of the software if its any use to you.
Currently enjoying flicking through the mix now

It's called Mixed In Key (the software), and it is very good at telling you what key the track is in, and what bpm it is.
What it doesn't tell you in the structure, or 'sound' of the song - is is light or dark, heavy and brooding or simple and light?
To me, the structure of a set or CD is purely about that - and what I'm trying to do is learn how to build a MIK'd set, but with proper tune progression that will actually take you somewhere.
Glad the others liked - I'm currently looking at Hard Cheese 3 for this months set, then a Trance one in Feb, and then I'm thinking I'll be doing one set every 2 months or so - really think about each one and make each track killer, not filler...
