As PHers seem to have slightly better taste than Smash Hits or Brit Award judges, what do we think was the best album of 2009?

My vote goes to Wrath by Lamb of God.

Critically my vote would go to the Manics for Journal for Plague Lovers.

But the album I've played most would be Working On A Dream by Bruce.

The difficulty with these threads is all the albums I haven't heard. I hear good things about Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, fk Buttons and even this years Bob Dylan issue but I haven't heard any of them (odd single/track excepted).

Difficult one. My favs are:

The Crooked Vultures (self titled)
The Mars Volta - Octahedron
Pearl Jam - Back Spacer
Alice in Chains - Black Gives Way To Blue

Also worth a mention:
Porcupine Tree - The Incident

This, best production on a metal record ever and some great lyrics too, Contractor for next years Xmas number 1 I say!

Although Prodigy - Invaders Must Die was a return to form and both Altar Of Plagues - White Tomb and Wolves In The Throne Room - Black Cascade have both been receiving heavy rotation on my stereo too. Cobalt - Gin is also worth a mention, ah damn it, I'll stick with 'Wrath' but all the others mentioned are worth a listen if you like your metal avantgarde.

If I did a top 10 it would probably include...

Manic Street Preachers - Journal For Plague Lovers
Stephen Wilson - Insurgentes
Jon Hopkins - Insides
Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
Mew - No More Stories...
Mastodon - Crack The Skye
Imogen Heap - Ellipse
Eaststrikewest - Wolvves
White Lies - To Lose My Life
Boxer Rebellion - Union

Biggest disappointments were Muse, Doves, Maximo Park, and Temper Trap

Being a big Prodigy fan I though Invaders was a bit hit/miss. I was surprised by 'Wrath', from what I've heard of LoG I dont like their past works but the first half or so of Wrath is particularly good. Nice production. The 'first half' thing can also be said about 'White Tomb'. I've only listened to 'Gin' once, but it was bloody good and will be getting it shortly. Black Cascade's great but nothing new..

Ulcerate - Everything is Fire is something I randomly downloaded and very pleased with. In the top 5 for me this year.

..I'm still sticking with 'Absu' though.

Haven't heard any Ulcerate, will check em out, keep forgetting about the new Absu record, will put it on my Amazon wish list to remind me. Funnily enough one of my favourite songs on 'Wrath' is the last song, 'Reclamation'!

ETA Ulceration win muchly, reminds me of Anata jamming with Hate Eternal.

Have you heard the latest Goatwe record Gompo?
