Great result, about time the X-Factor machine was kicked into touch. You can't beat a bit of RATM.

Cowell quoted on BBC news:

"I called Jon on Saturday to congratulate the two of them that, win or lose, they turned this into a very exciting race for the Christmas number one."

He was part of the campaign so did not lose. Turns out that we are the tossers.

What a (very successful) bell end.

It was nice to have the competition in the race this year... last 4 years straight X-Factor Christmas No.1's was getting dull.

Better too that Cowell's lost out, nothing personal against the poor lad Joe though.

Anyone who thinks this was nothing more than a viral to whip some extra cash up for the record companies is a fool smile

Indeed both Cowells label and RATM's label are owned by sony BMG.

Great news! Can't imagine a more inappropriate song for the season....
'Whoever wins the X factor will be the Xmas no 1' - Shouldn't be so smug, christ they can't even give the guy an original song to sing...

So what if they are? It was about stopping the X Factory getting to number one yet again. I saw posts over on hotukdeals along the lines of 'well i hope you're all pleased with yourselves - stopping poor joe getting to number one after going through everything hes went through this past four months' - Errr, HELLO, winning the X Factor does NOT give you the right to the christmas number one slot.

Whatever song was picked there would be some link found between the two songs and we'd have ended up with some wannabee internet knowitall telling us we're all fools because Simon Cowells wifes sisters aunt's brother used to be a roadie for the band in question therefore OBVIOUSLY it was a setup.

Given how rich Simon Cowell is, i'd say his ego would much rather have had the christmas number one rather than the miniscule impact 500,000 extra sales at 29p gross are going to have on the share price of SONY BSG.

Thats from voluntary donations made via the Facebook page. Apparently. not from music sales.

Just to satisfy my curiosity I went onto YouTube and listened to the RATM thing.

My God.

But however bad it is, at least it's real people playing real instruments and trying to do something original instead of some karaoke idiot.

Quote from Simon Cowell in the paper this morning: "I accept that there are people who don't like the X Factor."

Yeah - about 5 billion of us.
