Can anyone recommend something along the lines of Portishead for easy listening chill-out style tunes?
I heard Massive Attack's new song yesterday and it sounds awesome so this is on the wish list. We ended last nights festivities with the first Portishead album (funnily enough in Portishead!) and it brought back some good memories so I've just put it on again.

Morcheeba - Big calm
Finlay Quaye - Maverick Strikes

Both fairly chilled out albums

Bit more cheery/shimmery sounding, but Zero 7, Blue States, Bent, Bonobo and Lemon Jelly might tickle your fancy.

How about something leftfield and chilled out, maybe not quite what you were expecting but it's always nice to hear something new...

Aphex Twin: Selected Ambient Works

There are two volumes to try, "85-92" and "Volume 2".

Good compilation which got me into a lot of bands, used to be a cracking radio show too.

Depends which album you choose wink

Actually, Porcupine Tree's 'Voyage 34' might be right up the OP's street.

All of the above plus:

Amon Tobin - Blicolage (not quite as chilled as Portishead, but you may well like)
Kid Loco - A Grand Love Story
Nouvelle Vague - Bande a part, kinda different but extremely easy on the ears.

I thought about that, having just got another copy after about 14 years-got it on tape somewhere. Brilliant brilliant album but not what I'd call chillout. Each to their own.

Leftism by Leftfield anyone?

a few more:

Explosions in the sky
Bonobo
Lamb
Bon Iver, lovely stuff
Bowerbirds
Funki Porcini
Gotan Project
Kid Koala, a little upbeat compared to portishead, but worthy of posting

Daft punk...count as chillout?

The ministery of sound did a chilled out album, it's not bad and a good intro to follow up good tunes on, probably not really the OP's level though if he already knows about portishead and stuff.
