Not sure if anyone else is a fan - for me he is the best thing about the RHCP. will be sad if it is indeed true.

''Musicradar.com has stated that John Frusciante has left the Red Hot Chili Peppers. This recent news is of great significance as it comes from a highly credible source. Sadly I think its now pretty safe to say that John Frusciante has left the band.

Solo stuff is good - hope he pumps out a few more solo albums now!

biggrin It is ok that he leave because his solo music is amazing.
It is only him and also Flea that make RHCP good to listen to.

Wouldn't be the best news for Chili Peppers fans though Josh Klinghoffer has a pretty impressive CV if he is indeed the replacement.

John Frusciante's solo stuff is excellent if a little odd but there's no doubt that he's among the best guitarists around right now so presumably would leave a big hole in a band...

The only one I've heard is Shadows Collide with People. Listened the other day and was pretty blown away.

Bad news for RHCP but I thought their last album was very boring

His latest one, The Empyrean, is very good but some of the older ones like Automatic Writing and The Will To Death are also excellent. The very early stuff like Niandra Ladies is a bit odd to say the least smile

Seems to be an unconfirmed rumour at the moment, OP's link is 404'd and google news doesn't have much either

Sad to hear Frusciante is going, but I think RHCP have been going downhill steadily since Blood Sugar Sex Magick (which was fantastic).

One Hot Minute was OK, but they are now a boring middle of the road band IMHO.

Can't say I'm disappointed.

I've been a fan of all their work up to and including (just about) Californication, but from there they've just gone stale and bland. He's had too much influence on their direction IMO.

If this means more solo stuff in the vein of The Empyrean, then good news. RHCP never did it for me anyway

What a fking tragedy, will be robbed of more great tunes like Snow (Hey Yo)?

RHCP should have imploded years ago, they haven't done anything original for ages and it's about damn time they found better things to do that relive the glory days.

Great news for any RHCP fan then.

nadyenka - my favourite solo album is probably will to death, curtains or shadows collide with people. Smile from the streets you hold is fking mental - like a window into a drug addicts mind! I found the acoustic version of shadows on the web a few years ago - apparently john made it in a couple of days in 2004 sitting in his living room, then put it on his website for free download (http://www.invisible-movement.net/download/audio/scwp-acoustic) think its probably one of my all time favourite albums. what do you think?

collateral - Not sure why link is no longer working - it was!

I quite liked the more mature chili peppers and the live shows were absolutely incredible, saw them twice on by the way and once on stadium arcadium. John and flea were always the stand outs, will be a shame not to see that again. However, Klingoffer was st hot on second guitar on the Stadium arcadium tour. Hopefully he can bring the skills when it comes to writing the new album - I think (hope) john stays for the writing and josh takes over for the tour - touring was always whay john hated about the peppers.

I like Inside Of Emptiness and The Will To Death most biggrin

its official -

"December 16th, 2009

When I quit the band, over a year ago, we were on an indefinite hiatus. There was no drama or anger involved, and the other guys were very understanding. They are supportive of my doing whatever makes me happy and that goes both ways.

To put it simply, my musical interests have led me in a different direction. Upon rejoining, and throughout my time in the band, I was very excited about exploring the musical possibilities inherent in a rock band, and doing so with those people in particular. A couple of years ago, I began to feel that same excitement again, but this time it was about making a different kind of music, alone, and being my own engineer.

I really love the band and what we did. I understand and value that my work with them means a lot to many people, but I have to follow my interests. For me, art has never been something done out of a sense of duty. It is something I do because it is really fun, exciting, and interesting. Over the last 12 years, I have changed, as a person and artist, to such a degree that to do further work along the lines I did with the band would be to go against my own nature. There was no choice involved in this decision. I simply have to be what I am, and have to do what I must do.

Sending love and gratitude to you all."
