Michael Buble - how did he raise the $500,000?

After his performance on X factor tonight, I looked up Michael Buble on Wikipedia. It mentioned that initially he had to raise $500,000 to cover the production costs of his first album. This isn't an insignificant amount of money and Wikipedia doesn't elaborate on how he achieved this task. Does anybody here know how he did it?
