Ok, this has been rattling around my head now for months and I just don't know what it might be - I think it's Russian, but the only way I can depict it is to hum or whistle it which helps noone. So, using the power of PH, I was hoping to get some assistance.

I went to this site for an online piano to depict it.

http://www.bgfl.org/bgfl/custom/resources_ftp/clie...

These are the notes that I, in a real hamfisted way have worked out what part of the tune is - I apologise for the tone-deafness that it might be, but I don't remember the last time I heard this properly. There's a strong chance this is, however, complete nonsense:

A , C1 , B , A , G , A , B , G , E , E , D , E , F , E , D , C

Admittedly, the tune (I don't even know if it's from an opera or anything) might actually sound nothing like that in reality and the key is probably wrong and the composer is spinning in his grave. But I can't keep humming a couple of bars and not know what it is...

Thanks!

neither do i, but i still managed to pass a GCSE in music!

try grouping it together, adding spaces for pauses, and hyphens for note played together quicker.

It's not really Russian, but it's one of only about 3-4 famous Soviet type songs.

Vangellis, Conquest of Paradise, from the film 1492.
I want my GCSE upgraded to an A* for this.

If it is Conquest Of Paradise you are thinking about.

The notes would be?

A F1, E1-D1 C Sharp1, D1-E1, C1 A

Have never seen the film, but that track was used quite extensively by SKY in promotional films for Sky Sports and Sky Movies a few years ago..... the music when combined with the images used, made some superb promos.

Possibly why it sound familiar?

Possibly....

I never realised it was Vangelis though - it's a good tune - shame about the (non)optional synthesizer during the track though...

To be fair, neither did I at the time. I remember seeing one of the promos, and "wanted the music"

The web wasn't very good back then for finding out what music had been used, but luckily I had a friend who was a promo editor for Sky News..... so a quick text soon had the answer!

I was stunned at the time, because I felt it was a much older piece.

I, shamefully, downloaded it from a torrent.

However, I like it, so I'll do what I always do and actually pay for it.

I always pay for it if I like it - otherwise it gets deleted and forgotten about

I used to do things like that, then my kids showed me itunes, I love it, so easy, so cheap, and you're not "doing" anyone.

I've even bought stuff that I only had on vinyl, as you get it scratch free digital quality, and I haven't asked for anything they haven't got yet, even really old (sad according to my kids) tunes.
