Last FM - Awsome you must try this
Discussion
Just started using www.last.fm/listen after it being recommended to me last night.
What a brilliant way to discover new bands. You just type in bands you like & the site finds other bands for you to listen to & it will also make suggestions based on all the music you have on your PC in iTunes or Windows Media Player libraries

It'll also track your music that you listen to if you like, and recommend stuff based on what you've already listened to. I find so much new music this way it's unreal.

Love the thing! (Although their ipod scrobbing software hasn't been reliable for about a year now...)

Is this an accessable alternative to Pandora?
That was a great way of discovering new bands.

Not quite as comprehensive - some of the 'similarities' can be a little contrived - but still very good, and it permits user-reviews and links to modify it's data, so there's a (slight) wiki-element to it as well.
I used it loads, integrated it with my website and had it installed at home, work...
Then it was annouced that they had released usage details to the RIAA/MPAA after it was shown that an album, yet to be released, was been scrobbled by users. In Last.FM's defence, they didn't release the data, it was their parent company, but it's the same difference to me.
Now I don't have downloaded music as I love owning the CD's so wouldn't be worried about that in particular, but it worried me what I may end up been identified for / a letter through the door telling me off. Similarly, what other usage data is it picking up? I don't use it anymore as a result which is a crying shame as I really liked seeing all teh stats, getting recommendations of people...
Last.FM aren't the only ones either - remember RealPlayer?
