Jeff Waynes "War of the Worlds"

I love this!
I just bought the live DVD and it's blown my mind. The music has always been so good.. haunting, eerie and atmospheric. The live stage show is spectacular!
My favourite songs in it are The Spirit of Man, with Parson Nathanial and his talk of devils and demons. His wife Beth trying to reason with him, and his ultimate demise. Then there's the contrast with the Artilleryman and his naive optimism in building a new world underground.
The sad songs like Forever Autumn.. the spine tingling Thunderchild, and the amazing narrative of the journalist all through it.
My mate told me it's touring again this year, and I'm making a point of going to see it. There's a load of clips from the stage show on Youtube. Here's the intro to whet your appetite.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8JLqsbK5V0

Used to (and still does) scare the living crap out of me.
My dad recorded it off vinyl onto tape but he was such a perfectionist that he'd do it over and over and over and over again to get the levels right.
"UUUULLAAAAAAA!!!!"
"And still. They came".
fking hell. Yikes.
My dad did the same - took it on vinyl onto tape, exactly the same method (manual recording levels, loved it!). Scared the living crap out of me at the time, and it still sends shivers down my spine. My dad recorded it off vinyl onto tape but he was such a perfectionist that he'd do it over and over and over and over again to get the levels right.

Music - fantastic
Production - awesome
Vocal performances - amazing
Richard Burton - incredible
Forever Autumn still brings a tear to my eye ....
picture the scene, Mater just out of hospital with my new baby brother expecting some serenity but father, more exited about his new B&O "hifi" cues up WOTW and with his head phones on and volume way past 11 on full blast, cheeky me pulls out the jack and mater gets "DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNN" instead at about 1000db! Much hilarity ensues as my baby brother screams the house down louder than the currently playing UUUULLLAAAAAAA!
Top album by the way, I used to be fascinated by the book that came with the vinyl.
