I grew up listening to the pirate radio stations in Londo where often there would be MC"s going back to back for long periods of time over the music. Not like Drum 'n' Bass MC's, not that fast, but so you could hear the lyrics clearly over the cool gargare beats.

My question is does anone have any or links to any? I love a good MC beig a massive hip hop fan but I miss the funky garage beats too.

Help me people!!

Joe

PS if you have any good underground hip hop feel free to throw that my way too!

Thanks for the vid but I've had enough of D&B at the moment, much as Skibba and Eksman is a great MC. for you Londonersut there I'm talking about pirate's like DeJa Vu, Dream FM and Supreme fm. There would be great MC's back to back. The best example of the stuff i am after is the Heartless Crew's album 'Crisp Biscuit' and in particularly cd 1. Check it out, it's a great listen for a party or such like.

I'll check out Wordsmith, cheers for that. I seem to be stuck either in the 90's US hip hop, or now the UK stuff, Klashnekoff, Kyza, Skinnyman, Chester p., Jehst etc etc.

Grime does'nt do it for mr though at all, although I can respect some of the MC's talents. Dizzee can still kill any beat, as can Wiley but my favourite from that lot is J2k. Kano seemed to lose momentum but check out Ghetto from his little crew, also goes by Ghetts (there are a lot of freestyles on Tim Westwood tv on You Tube). It's almost unlistenable but when you decipher it the lyrics aRE ASTONISHING. Shame the beats make your ears bleed.

He can mc brilliantly to garage, D&B, hip hop (although his HH is not quite as good as his faster speed stuff. The kids a lyrical genuis with great timing, a great sound to his voice; pitch, tone and timbre (some mc's sound like school teachers ffs, voice and a lightening fast tounge speed.
All IMHO, of course.

Thoughts?

I've listened to MC-ing Jamaican style, 'toasting' irrc (it was a long time ago).

In more recent years, I quite liked Kie, Blakey, Charlie Brown, CKP etc who all MC-ed at Stush... not sure if any of them still on a circuit somewhere as they were garage MCs.

But even this seems like an age ago now.

HaVINg hust relistened to some Vapur, what I love is the quality lyrics with the studio quality you got in a pireta station, where you can here a top tune AND the mc's lyrics.

Nice discussion to have on PH though!

I take it you've not heard about MC Spitfire? Got caught out trying it on with a woman he shouldn't have, so in revenge they tricked him into inserting a digit where a straight man shouldn't on webcam and uploaded it to the internet. DNBA's forum got hold of it, 60-page thread etc etc

Anyway, it all ended up with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIpOJdnbwBI&fea...
