I saw this tour at manny appollo so you have to buy the dvd right?

can't make my mind up - viruoso genius pushing the boundaries of guitar / fusion / composition or rather too self indulgent.

find my self skipping tracks when the violinists start...

Both I'd say. Most great performers are a bit arrogant though I reckon.

but most great performers don't put fans at the front of stage so their hair is in constant rock video mode.

A virtuoso genius pushing the boundaries of guitar / fusion / composition.

One of the best in the world. A fantastic guitarist and performer and a very nice person, I've seen him in concert four times now and shook his hand a couple of times. I've also observed the way in which he interacts with fans at the after show gathering. He's non-arrogant, very friendly and very personable.

He saw my mate's young daughter holding her guitar for it to be signed and asked if she was going to play for him. So he knelt by her as she strummed out a few chords. He turned to Billy Sheehan and said "hey Billy come and see this you could be out of a job". He gently complimented her on her chord changes, happily signed her guitar and had his photo taken with her.

He's probably similar to David Gilmour for his pleasant nature and personality. If you want to see a miserable bugger go and see Gary Moore after a concert.

Steve Vai is a very decent bloke and anybody who calls him an arse is talking out of theirs.

Here's a picture of Vai lstening to Katie play.

fantastic picture there matey.

he does come across as really nice and genuine, in a relatively minor musical genre he is a true star. not forgetting his dave lee roth days of course.

i just felt the dvd was a bit ploddy at times compared to the astoria dvd which is sensational.

Never met him but I'm a massive fan so it's good to hear he's all right ! Watched some stuff on Youtube and (considering what a cock he might well have been) he comes across well bow

I tried to get into Vai but I just never gelled. I dont really enjoy the music and I dont like the tone, although I do appreciate him.

If you want to see an arrogant bd look no further than Yngwie and that clip of him on a plane hehe

I too have endured many hours listening to lots of guitar virtuoso's and I find Satriani much easier to listen to.

Yngwie (although I thought he was entertaining in concert manay years ago) - takes ego to another level.

I think I should confess at this point, that Im a drummer (yes the guy that hangs around with musicians etc) so tended to listen to these guys as they always had fantastic musicians alongside them.

I remember that being broadcast on TV for the first time, I was 9 years old. Still have it recorded on VHS, great show. That's the best performance of FTLOG I've ever seen, and he's playing my favourite JEM.

Damn, I really want a JEM7PBK. Anyone got one? biggrin

I've still got it on video somewhere! Also got a documentary called 'Into The Electric Age' or something with guys like Bo Diddley, Joe Satriani, Les Paul and Stanley Clarke interviewed, together with lots of clips of guitar players through the ages.

Fantastic...
