Any classical / opera obsessives on here?

A dilemma on my hands, my Dad died a few years back - he was a classical / opera fanatic - and I'm just not, but his main pastime was recording performances of note over a thiry year period - everything was recorded to new TDK cassettes on then state of the art equipment and neatly boxed, stored in cool dry conditions, net result when he died I just couldn't bring myself to get rid of them - there are upwards of 1000.

Now I realise my musical tastes will never change - so I wan't to give the entire collection away to someone who will both appreciate them and who is able to collect them from me - 10 minutes off M5 at Clevedon - if you'd like them and fall in to that description they're yours....

Hi Tim,

Do you have any sort of "catalogue" of what's there? There may well be something important or unique there. Are they all taped off the radio, or live recordings?

There might well be Music colleges / estates of composers/performers / libraries who would be interested in having them.

Would be a shame for them to go into landfill if there's something of note in there!

I think theres concert recordings there - but the majority will be from Radio three - have listened to some this afternoon and they're brilliant quality recordings - the old man always bought the absolute best kit (the NAD tape deck dies on me last year :-( ) - as to a catalogue of them all - he held that mainly in his head but I suspect I recycled the PC with the full list on....

Too big a body of work to send to the tip and would break my heart to do it - there msut be someone out there that would like them!!!

I think you need to find out what sort of stuff is on there. Are the tapes labelled?
