Bon Jovi - The Circle.
Discussion
Didn't know what to expect from this but I picked it up yesterday, gave it a quick blast in the CD changer on the way home today and I must admit, I was suitably impressed!
It's definately a grower and there are some cracking songs on there that I'm sure will sound brilliant live, but I'll be fked if I'm paying £100 a ticket to go see them at the O2 in May!
I'd say it's worth a wee listen anyway!
As you were.

Being a bit of a die hard Bon Jovi fan I aquired a copy before release and found out it was ste so saved me buying it. They haven't done anything remotely good since Bounce (and even the unreleased songs off the album were better than most if not all on it, youtube "Lucky" by the jove and be amazed). I'm also pretty shocked at the prices they want for tickets at the O2, I caught them 3 times last tour but certainly won't be paying a penny to see them this time. Besides, Jon's voice is near dead and Richie's is going however much it pains me to say that. Everyone should check out Richie's 2 solo albums!!!

I bought the album on release day and have now listened to it about 5 or 6 times and it does get better the more you listen to it. Some of the music actual music seems very similar to some of their older stuff though.
I dont think the album is too bad if you consider the fact they said they were going to release a Greatest Hits album this year, not an actual album..but because of whats been going on in the world they ended up making an album. There seems to be sniff in the air of a possible tour in 2011, which won't be at the O2...how true that is we'll have to wait and see
I also have tickets to see them as i've been the last 5 times and couldn't pass up the chance to see them again, we've managed to get pretty good seats a £65 each, but it's the horrendous O2 charges that bump the price up.

I paid £150 or something rediculous off ebay to be at the first O2 concert which the Jove obviously opened. That was worth it as I got front row in the second set of floor seating with my mate.I dont think the album is too bad if you consider the fact they said they were going to release a Greatest Hits album this year, not an actual album..but because of whats been going on in the world they ended up making an album. I believe they will be doing a greatest hits stadium tour from what I have heard so bring that on.
As for their latest album, the songs just don't stand up for themselves, they're completely forgettable. These Days was the last "epic" album they did and that was a monster. Maybe they're trying to take a different direction now but IMO it's not working. As said above check out "Lucky" on youtube which should of been on Bounce. That shocked me how good it was and the fact it wasn't on the album is a crime, same goes for "We Can Dance" and "Another Reason To Believe". Find them and get back to me, hope you dig those tunes as I much as I do.

Another Reason To Believe...that is one amazing track! How did it not make any of the albums!?!? I'm going to havee to try and get a copy of it for it in the car.
I must admit I love the vocals on their cover of Dr Hooks 'Sylvias Mother'
Lucky is my favourite but all 3 of those songs are stronger than anything on Bounce (not that it was a bad album, definetlty the last acceptable album they recorded though) by a country mile and they obviously still cared a bit about songwriting. I don't know if I'm coming off a bit strong about this but maybe it's the musician in me knowing they can do much better and owe it to their fans.I must admit I love the vocals on their cover of Dr Hooks 'Sylvias Mother'
Well they did keep saying that this album would be more rock...liek what they used to do. Admitidly it is more rock than the last album or 2, but then it couldn't be any less really, but it's still not what was expected. I've just bought their new book too, so I'll take a read through that and see if it explains anything.
As for the unrelease tracks...my brain kicked into gear after listening to the tracks on youtube and I dug out the box set of '100,000,00 fans can't be wrong' which is 4 discs of unreleased and demo tracks so think i'll make an effort and start listening to these

I don't think any of those 3 are on there. However, Fields of Fire is (I think, if not thats another one to youtube) which was unreleased off Keep The Faith and Jon singing Rosie which I believe him and Richie co-wrote but didn't use it so Richie had it for his solo albums. The box set isn't much cop to be honest but hopefully you find something on it you enjoy. As for the unrelease tracks...my brain kicked into gear after listening to the tracks on youtube and I dug out the box set of '100,000,00 fans can't be wrong' which is 4 discs of unreleased and demo tracks so think i'll make an effort and start listening to these
Sounds like I should get the book though, that'd be something I'd enjoy reading.

Another die hard Bon Jovi fan here
Also as for whats been said about the up coming shows - i'd consider my self one of the lucky ones to have seen them a good few times now (7) and the last two times i've managed to get the `Golden Circle` tickets for around £130 a pop which i thought wasn't at all bad but a quick search the other day brought up astronomical prices for gig tickets which regretfully i will not be paying for. I'd love to go and see them again.
With reference to the albums comments (Bounce/These Days etc), i honestly thought that their last big album was These Days after the recent few releases efforts but to be honest, after a good few listens and once outa the lime light i thought that there was some very good tracks on offer indeed. Just to name a few are : Undivided, Hook Me Up, You Had Me From Hello, Bounce, Just Older, One Wild Night, Have A Nice Day.

In total agreement here. These Days was the last epic and probably my favourite album they did. Jon wrecked his voice doing it too, I'm still amazed at the notes he hits on the album, just incredible. After the Bounce record I don't really like anything they've done other than 2/3 singles and definetly not the ones off the new album, god does it suck.ih8thisname said:

I also agree with the comment above, you wouldn't of caught them miming back in the day to a track, it'd be a special acoustic performance leaving you wanting more.

They did mime, I can remember top of the pops in 86, Livin on a Prayer etc, when they mimed and they mimed their way through never say goodbye in 87 the week before Donington.
Also, they were on Saturday Superstore / Going Live (whichever it was!) the morning of the 89 Milton Keynes gig... Having said that I agree with the sentiment about lame TV appearances and I did them too!
