I've been getting into the specials recently too.

The OH's band played with their guitarist the other day. Listening to him play Gangsters was my highlight of the evening.

Haha, do you ever get the unnerving impression that someone else knows more about you than you do about them? hehe

[ETA Ah, okay, just remembered the other thread! She's on alto usually, but barritone with The Apocryphalites BTW]

But, no, I didn't think it was one of their better performances, for reasons which aren't entirely clear - the crowd usually go mad within a couple of songs (as indeed they did the last time they played at The Hootenanny), but on that occasion everyone seemed a bit non-plussed. Roddy seemed to be having a hard time too if I'm honest, but hearing one of the original Specials playing my favourite tune out of their back catalogue was still cool.

No, I don't belive we've met. I was at the gig too - my Mrs knows a few of the band (Ed, Zoe, Bill, Doctor & Greg). Do I take it that your OH is the sax player who isn't Zoe?

Small world eh?

Back on topic. Yes the Specials are, well, special.

Very small! Yep, Rach is indeed the girl who isn't Zoe. For that matter I'm the hanger-on who isn't Tim... smile

They're in between drummers at the moment, so barring Rach and Jim you know the entire current line up.

You'll have to come and say hello if you end up at a future gig. I'm the scruffy one loitering next to the band without an instrument!

The next gig that I know I'll be attending is when they provide the entertainment at Mrs 5Pen's birthday party next April, so maybe I'll see you there!

I see from your profile that you're a Caterham onwer - Coincidentally, I used to own a 6-speed Roadsport too.

Indeed - hopefully they should have replaced Taps by that point. Fecking drummers! Spinal tap had a pretty accurate handle on their useful service life I reckon. hehe

Yep, there's a Caterham owner on every street practically! That's half the reason I bought one. That and the fact I need to keep something practical to lug barritone saxophones, altos, sopranos, clarinets, flutes, keyboards and the occasional guitar around, so I might as well take the opportunity to make the second car a bit minimalist. Looked at changing my daily driver to an Alfa GTV recently and it failed the crucial 'barri test'...
