Go on'en!

I want to send my ickle sister a mix cd during this happy time. Ideally stuff which is chilled, soothing and interesting.

Thoughts?

You've got a new mum? What happened to the old one?

Your mum is your sister?

Small world eh? wink

Who will the CD be for, mummy or baby?

It was not long after posting this that I realised the title was not optimised against East Anglian style in-breeding jokes.

To be clear, my sister has just given birth. I am not the father of her child. My mother is a different person entirely.

If any of you can recommend some relaxed but interesting tunes for a knackered but happy new mum that would just be super. I have a few ideas but thought I'd utilise the PH musical brain.

I suppose 'Smack my bh up' by the Prodigy isn't what you're looking for?

But on a more serious note, I like Zero 7, anything by them really, pretty chilled and relaxing.

If it's strictly a chilled but fairly uplifting mix CD you're after, the Cafe Del Mar series isn't bad... puck one with good reviews on Amazon - 3 and 6 are good good choices off the top of my head! smile

Chicane do some awesome chilled out stuff, think Saltwater, maybe even Poppiholla, Royksopp are good at chilled stuff. As someone else said Zero7. Layo and Bushwhacker? You could even get some of porcupine tree's more accoustic stuff in there. Depends what you/she likes though.

Just have a look on the HMV site at the chilled compilations, if you are planning on mixing the CD yourself it should give you plenty of idea's, If not just order the first one you come to and if she doesnt like it she's obviously ungrateful. wink

Good luck uncle Zep!

Safe from Harm by Dusted is a really chilled album and is all about a new born child and it's upbringing. Could be appropriate. It's by Rollo who is also in Faithless.

Anything by DJ River - the best chillout stuff I've ever heard.

His work is all free to download from his site in MP3 format and they're typically about an hour and a half of perfectly-mixed bliss. You could easily convert it to a 'normal' audio CD, and he provides .cue files so you can have track 1, track 2, track 3 etc rather than just one long track. Have a listen, even if you don't give it to your mum's sister.

I'd start with this:

and for more upbeat stuff, try the Chicane mixes:

Agreed... I got introduced to his stuff over the net a couple of years ago, burned a couple of CDs, didn't label them and promptly forgot where they were from until now - thanks for the reminder, bookmarking this thread right now! smile
