Read/heard yesterday that a-ha are splitting up for good at the end of 2010. Not a bad run of 25 years, 9 albums and some cracking pop songs.

Will miss 'em but guess it's 'the swing of things'.

Wowsers. You must be a fan - that wasn't a single, was it? Plus my sister told me and I couldn't think of any suitable songs to reply with.

Yep, just released their latest album about a month ago.

They did sort of occupy the middle of the road synthpop of the 80's, without the more camp overtones of the Pet Shop Boys or Erasure.

i thought, after releasing 'Foot of the mountain' that this would be some sort of a comeback - what's the point in releasing 1 new album then jacking it in?

They dropped away from the synthpop stuff, and if you listen to a few of their albums you can see where Coldplay were influenced by A-Ha.

Live they're totally different though - sound more like a rock/blues band, and damn good at it as well.

I can see my sister and a few of her friends trying to get tickets to the last gig.

Yup, 'East of the Sun..' and 'Scoundrel Days' are two prime examples.

+ 1. I've seen them 3 times and they were superb, last time being in 2002 at the Royal Albert Hall. Twas tops!

I'd not be embarressed to say I'm considering it! Oslo is supposed to be a pretty city to see as well smile

Probably down to poor sales.

Aye, tis true - A-Ha were doing that sound 10 years before Coldplay had any sort of success.

Apparently Coldplay (or at least Chris 'Yawnsome' Martin) have acknowledged A-Ha as a major influence.

You jammy sod, top band, top performers, great writing.

My sister went to see them early on in their careers, a show at the Blackpool Winter Gardens. She got a decent seat, her and a friend wrote a big sign saying "we love morten" (in norwegian). They got a look, smile and wave from him .... she's fancied him ever since.

I will now go back to listening to "How Can I Sleep with your voice in my head".

Mmmmm, Oslo would be good. Forget about the city, think of those norwegian gals ....
