Possibly an obscure request, possibly not.

Back in ~2000 a mate of mine did me a copy of a CD of music played in Mojave Desert (I think) raves/parties.

Was breakbeaty stuff.

Does anyone have a clue what I'm speaking of, or if it was a series?

ETA not sure that it wasn't funkydesertbreaks by john kelly...but listening to snippets on amazon I don't actually recognise any of them...grrr...

I was going to say Funky Desert Breaks... There are 2 parts, both with a very trippy AZ-CA vibe, very representative of the scene going on there at the time (of which I was fortunate enough to have been a part - lots of dusty memories. Ahhhh...).

Moontribe was the name of one of (if not) the original Desert party(ies), they also put out a few releases & sold tapes/CD at/of their events. Moonshine was the name of their label iirc.

There were a couple of similar, copy-cat releases around that time Dirty Desert Breaks, Desert Dawn Breaks etc.

You lucky sod!

Cheers for the info, I'll check them out.

Since you're French/residing in France (ignore my "joke" on another thread..ahem...) and have a penchant for electronic music, do you have any recommendations for new French output aside from the usual Daft Punk (and LeKnightClub, Crydamoure etc), Cassius, EdC, Sinclar, Alex Gopher, Braxe etc? I like some of the Ed Banger output but it's a bit...harsh... on occasion...

Cheers

One day you're gonna have to stop running from what happened and deal with it, otherwise you might as well move to France with all the other pussies.

You know I'm going to have to go & find your joke now don't you... wink

Nah, not French, Mancunian. So only a part time pussy I'm afraid. biggrin

Don't know how much help I can be really, as I tend toward the harsher end of the electronic spectrum myself & I'm not sure if it would be to your taste. Current French stuff I can recommend would be like Rotator, Repeater, Le Jad, Le Talium, Krumble, Cor-Tex Lab, Producer, Jon Doe/Eric Zimmer, Le Bask, FKY that kind of stuff. Actually FKY might be to your liking, linky below.

Rotator - Hard Disk Dead
Repeater - Collision Repair Specialist
Core-Tex Lab - That One Is Black
FKY - The First Window

Hardtek Tribe seems to be the big fing wiv da kidz in France at the moment, which tbh, is Monkey-turd-on-toast levels of epic stness.

Cheers MrH. I think you're right about us having slightly differing tastes wink
The first couple of links are good.

If you want to know what the kids in the UK are into have a scout around for some Unicorn Kid (I know this only from a friend (genuinely a friend) who went to see Calvin Harris(?) and he was supported by UK with the audience of munchkins going wild. It's st)
