I do a bit of remix work for some artists and I have currently been asked to remix an original Christmas song which is going to be released on a Christmas dance compilation album. Very cheesy, as you would expect. I did similar last year where I remixed "The Snowman" (with the welsh lad) for the album.

Anyway, I've been asked to remix this song. Its horrendous. Terrible cheesy Euro dancy poppy ste. They asked me to do something similar to the previous work I have done for them (mostly electro house/trance) so I spent most of last night (and the early hours of the morning) playing around, turing the overly happy lyrics into something a little more sinister. I haven't been to bed yet (and I doubt I will bother now) so my judgement is a little off with regards to just about everything musically.

The lyrics started off being perfectly in tune when I started and listening now, they seem a little off, yet I haven't touched them really.

Download and listen. It's about 8mb at 192kb. Any feedback with regards to production (bearing in mind it is raw and unmastered) or just whether you like it or not would be appreciated!

Meanwhile, I think I might have a nap...

Thanks!

Ha - I actually really like this! I see what you mean about the lyrics, but the current vogue is to have slightly out of key lyrics, isn't it?

The original - you could take them to the court of human rights, on a charge of cruel and unusual punishment!

Good nights work there...

The verses are fine I think. The chorus is off though. Nowt I cant change though.

I've sent this version for them to listen and they have come back saying they need something more happy with jingle bells in it... dear lord.

I'm probably just going to take the lyrics out, rearrange it a bit and keep it as a personal track rather than just a remix.

yes I was thinking just this, given that you've done an almighty job given the source material and the parameters you've been asked to work within.. I quite like the vocal (and the slightly off-key effect gives it a darker, dirtier vibe) - it's just that it gets too twee lyrically and does start to grate very quickly.

A version with the vocal chopped up a bit (loose the word 'Christmas' FFS! biggrin) would have fitted the bill perfectly at electro house nights I've played at with more mainstream crowds (think Po Na Na type places!) - just a shame it sounds like you couldn't get such a take an official release!! frown
