A with a twisted wrist irked

My fingers usually lie on a diagonal.. over the three strings. One just after the first fret, the other just before the second, and the final finger just after the second.

(Sorry, that's the best I can do)

You're playing it first position, yes, an A with the B string sharpened a semitone? Can you not make an A shape and then sharpen the note with your little finger?

Hi,

2 ways of playing it, assuming you are going from the A Major position, when you add the D ( the 4th ). Either slide 3rd finger to the 3rd fret, or use your small finger. Personally I use 3rd, leaves 4th open to other notes.

Difficult to describe but I hope you get it smile

Advantage of using the little finger is that you can hammer on/pull off, though.

1st finger across the top 4 strings at the second fret, then add 3rd finger at the 3rd fret of 2nd string.

For the 1st string, either don't play it, or add the 4th finger at the 5th fret.

Bit tricky that last bit!

Or barre the lot at the 5th fret with the 1st finger and add 2nd, 3rd and 4th fingers across the 7th fret on the 5th, 4th and 3rd strings respectively.

I would use:

X02230

Fingers: 1,2,3 on strings D,G,B respectively. It's as easy as a basic D chord except your fingers 1 and 2 are on different strings.

Much depends where you're moving from to hit it, but one easy way it play it is to barre the first two strings with your index finger leaving your middle finger free to hit the D on the B string. This avoids the problem 'how to control the little finger'.

If you're moving from a D chord or G chord then it's simples peep's...

Yep, you can then play a whole load of other jazz-type chords be keeping the same basic shape on your 3rd and 4th fingers and moving around.

hehe

Anyway, and off-topic, I would recommend anyone taking up the guitar as a first instrument seeing how chords work on a keyboard - it's a lot more obvious what's going on.

Try a few different fingerings, it depends on where your coming from and where your going to.

The more shapes in your trick bag the better. Guitar is hard enough, so make it as easy as you can by moving least amount of finger stuff.

It's how you look while you do it that's important anyway.
