Seems to me most people have never heard of her, but in my eyes she is a rare genius who should be held in the same regard as Nick Drake, someone she shares a few similarites with.
Coming from the LA singer/songwriter scene of the early seventies she only produced 2 studio albums, both are masterpieces. An outstanding writer, musician and singer, she has a sound all her own.
Dropped by her record label after the resounding failure of her first 2 lps she went into downward spiral and overdosed at the age of 34. Her music has the power to make grown men cry (not me obviously).
A third LP that was never finished has surfaced recently and the quality shines through in the rough cuts and half finished tracks. There is also a live LP which shows her songs in a more stripped down but no less powerful light.
There is little on youtube but here is a link to a live version of the amazing " The Donor". The album version is awesome.
